Allah will forgive the sins of the deceased if his relative does this

As we know, once a person leaves this world, he no longer has the opportunity to perform deeds for which he will receive a reward. However, each person has the opportunity to receive a reward after death.

If a person bequeaths (to his heirs) to spend the property that he leaves after death for good deeds, then he will be able to receive the same reward for this, which he would have received if he had spent it during his lifetime. A person receives the same reward if he spent his property on a good cause (for example, the construction of mosques, madrasas, roads, bridges, water pipes, etc.), the fruits of which people will use even after his death. There are two more ways in which a person can continue to receive a reward after leaving for another world - these are useful knowledge left by a person and a child who will pray for him.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عمله إلاّ من ثلاث: صدقة جارية أو علم ينتفع به أو ولد صالح يدعو له

« When a person dies, all his deeds cease, with the exception of three deeds, the reward for which does not stop even after death: continuous alms (sadaka jariya), knowledge from which people benefit, and righteous children who pray for parents ". (Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmizi)

As we can see, in this hadith, the Prophet ﷺ indicates that the prayers of the righteous children benefit the deceased, therefore, his sins can also be forgiven. This also includes reading the Qur'an for the deceased. Although the recitation of the Qur'an by any person can benefit the deceased if one of his children does it, accordingly, the deceased receives a great reward. The Qur'an for deceased parents and other relatives can be read at home, in a mosque or in other suitable places, but it is preferable to do this near the graves of the dead.

Visiting the graves of relatives and friends, and especially parents, is an important Sunnah. As narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the most comforting time for the deceased is the time when he is visited by a person whom he loved in worldly life.

It is also narrated from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say:

مَنْ زَارَ قَبْرَ وَالِدَيْهِ كُلّ جُمُعَةٍ أَوْ أَحَدِهِمَا ، فَقَرَأَ عِنْدَهُمَا أَوْ عِنْدَهُ يس ، غُفِرَ لَهُ بِعَدَدِ كل آية وحرف منها

« Whoever visits every Friday the graves of his parents or one of them and read the sura "Yasin" near them, the Almighty will forgive him as many sins as there are letters and words in this sura ". (Dailami)

It happens that a person during the life of his parents tormented them. But if, after their death, he incessantly prays for them, Allah Almighty can forgive and record his name among those who were submissive to their parents.

From this, too, it is clear that a person who visits the graves of his parents is one who obeys them, does not harm or torment them, and fulfills his duty to them. When visiting the graves of parents, it is necessary to behave in an appropriate manner, observing ethical standards. It is necessary to stand next to them at the same distance as they did during their lifetime, showing them respect and honor. You shouldn't raise your voice around them.

You should not knock on their graves, hug them, make a detour around them, and when leaving, you must behave in the same decent and respectful way as you did with them during life.

You should also make a dua after reading the Qur'an, whether it be near the graves or in other places, so that Almighty Allah accepts the reading and brings the reward for it to the dead. In this case, the hope of acceptance will be much greater.

Imam An-Nawawi he said the following about it: The most famous opinion of Imam Ash-Shafi'i is that the reward for reading the Qur'an cannot reach the deceased, but Shafi'i theologians believed that this was possible. If a person reads the Qur'an, then in conclusion let him say:

اَللَّهُمَّ أَوْصِلْ ثَوَابَ مَا قَرَأْتـُهُ إِلىَ فلان

« Allahhumma avsil sawaba ma karatuhu ilya fulyan ... »

« O Supreme! Bring the reward (savab) for what I have read to such and such (the name is called)". ("Mukhtasar tafsir Ibn Kathir"; "Al-Azkar")

Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami also writes about this:

« Receiving a reward for reading the Qur'an to the dead is not an end in itself, but the goal is a dua so that Allah has mercy and brings the same reward to the person for whom the dua is made". ("Al-Fatawa alfiqiya al-kubra")

Ibn al-Qasim in his book "Hashiya 'ala Tuhfat al-Muhtaj" adds:

« If a person at the beginning of the reading (of the Qur'an for the deceased) intends to give a reward to the deceased and makes a dua, then the deceased receives a reward for this reading. However, does this mean that the deceased receives the same reward as the reader, that is, the reader receives his reward, and the deceased also receives the same reward, or only the deceased receives the reward for reading, and the reader does not? There is disagreement on this score, but the heart still inclines towards the first (the deceased receives the same reward as the one who reads). This opinion also corresponds to the meaning implied by the words of Ibn As-Salah».

Based on all of the above, we can say that Allah Almighty forgives the sins of the deceased and brings to him a reward for recitation of the Koran if his relative, especially children, reads the Qur'an for him and makes a dua so that Allah will bring him a reward for reading and forgive his sins.

Prayer for peace

Prayer for the repose of the soul of the deceased in Orthodoxy

When a loved one passes away, it is an irreparable grief. But the loss of a loved one must be experienced, no matter how difficult it is, and move on. It is believed that the worst thing is when parents have to bury their children. But it can hardly be argued that it is less difficult for children to say goodbye to their beloved parents forever. The emotional pain from the loss of other relatives is unbearable.

When they say that time heals, then this is a false statement. The pain of losing a loved one remains in the soul of a person for the rest of his life. But it becomes dull not because time passes, but because the emptiness in the soul gradually begins to be filled with various household worries. But at the same time, a loved one will always be missed, and from time to time each of us tries to mentally communicate with loved ones.

How to pray for the newly deceased so that the soul goes to heaven

Of course, when a loved one passes away, you do not want to accept this fact. But it should be remembered that our emotions, feelings and suffering do not allow the deceased to calmly depart to another world. We do not let go of his soul from us and by this we harm him very much. This is due to the fact that the soul of the deceased is rushing about and cannot find its place. In the first days after the death of a person, it simply hovers in space. Therefore, the task of relatives is to release the soul of the deceased from themselves and help her take her place in Heaven.

For this you need:

  • Immediately after death, within 40 days, order liturgies and memorial services in the temple.
  • Be sure to arrange a wake on the 9th and 40th day. This is due to the fact that these days the soul of the deceased appears before the Lord. The more you remember about the dead in these days of living people, the better.
  • Every day at home for 40 days, you need to pray at home for the repose of the soul of the deceased. It depends on whether your loved one goes to heaven.

Remember that praying for the repose of the newly deceased is very important within 40 days after his death. But you also need to remember to offer prayers for the repose and later. There are special days for this. This will not only help the soul of the deceased find peace, but also allow you to calm down from an irreparable loss and cope with grief.

The real prayer goes like this:

How to order a magpie and a memorial service for the deceased in the temple

The loss of a loved one is a very difficult event. But you need to understand that nothing can be changed. In difficult life moments, you need to remember that with some of your actions you can help the soul of the deceased to quickly find peace in Heaven. For this, first of all, on the main dates associated with the departure to another world, a church memorial service is ordered. And for a believer, it is of great importance, so it allows you to survive grief. A memorial service is a divine service that is held on the third, ninth and fortieth days after the death of a person.

To order it, you need:

  • Visit the temple in advance.
  • Leave the offering on the memorial table.
  • Write a note with the name of the person you want to remember and give to the priest.
  • Inform the priest on which day you want to order a memorial service.

It is believed that on the ninth day the soul of a deceased person will appear before the Lord and will wait for the arrival of nine angelic ranks. On this day, the purpose of the memorial service in the church is to ask the Almighty to help the soul of the deceased approach the holy angels. During the memorial service, all believers in the temple must hold lit candles in their hands. Thus, sincere love for the deceased is expressed, which is necessarily read by the Lord at the Fair Judgment. A memorial service for 9 days can be held in different churches.

On the fortieth day, the soul of the deceased person, after walking through hell, ascends to God for the third time. At this point, her fate will be decided. This decision largely depends on the earthly deeds of the deceased person, but prayers for the repose of the soul, which were offered by relatives throughout the entire time after death, also play an important role.

Also, a memorial service can be ordered on the anniversary of death. But this memorial event is not mandatory.

Very often, to calm their own souls, people order a magpie for the deceased. This rite is a special kind of remembrance. For the repose of the magpie, it is ordered for 40 days, six months and a year. For 40 days, a prayer is read in the church for the repose of the deceased, and it is during this period that the remission of sins to the deceased takes place.

To whom to put a candle for the repose of the father and mother

Candles for the dead are placed on a special eve table. This design is usually installed to the left of the entrance. The table is covered with a metal or marble board. It is easy to recognize, as it has a rectangular candlestick on which the Crucifixion of the Lord is installed. If for some reason there is no such table in the temple, then you can put a candle for the repose of the father or mother near any icon. But it is very important not to do it thoughtlessly. It is necessary to remember the deceased for some time to stand in silence near a lit candle.

When you put a candle for the repose, you must follow the following rules:

  • Cross himself twice on the Crucifixion of the Savior.
  • Light a candle from other burning candles or from a lamp.
  • Put a lit candle in a free cell and fix it so that it does not bend and does not come into contact with other candles.
  • After installing the candle, you need to whisper the following words: "God rest the soul of the deceased Thy Servant (name)."
  • Cross and bow.

Memorial prayer for repose

A memorial prayer for the repose is a special word aimed at calming the soul of the deceased. Praying for repose, we not only invisibly help the deceased, but also console ourselves in our grief. All this is connected with Christian canons, in which death is not endowed with a tragic meaning.

Full text of the prayer

The full text of the prayer for the repose is as follows:

The deceased person must be commemorated on special days provided by the church. But besides this, he must be remembered on the day of his birth, the day of death and on the day of the angel. On these days, if possible, it is necessary to visit the church and bring donations. It is also recommended to give alms to the poor on memorial days, while asking them to remember the name of the deceased relative when they pray.

Short version

A short version of the prayer for the repose is often used. It is often recited in the cemetery near the grave of the deceased on memorial days. But it is more important to pronounce them in the period after forty days after the death of a loved one.

It is believed that the first 3 days the soul of the deceased person is near the body. She sees everything that happens and can react to the actions of people, giving certain signs. That is why it is impossible to grieve greatly for the deceased, since it will be difficult for the soul to leave the earth. Short prayers for peace will help to cope with grief. They will also allow the soul of a deceased person to go to the world of spirits without torment.

After three days, the soul of the deceased departs to the spiritual world, where it will stay for 40 days. And for this period, short prayers for repose are very important, they will help the soul to answer for all the deeds of a person in earthly life. On the 40th day, the Last Judgment takes place and God decides where the soul will move to hell or heaven. Each uttered short prayer for the repose increases the chances of the soul of the deceased to go to heaven.

A short prayer goes like this:

Listen to prayers for peace:

Muslim prayer for the soul of the deceased

A Muslim prayer in honor of a Muslim or Muslim woman is called Janazah prayer. This is a collective funeral prayer, which is a duty for the faithful. If such a prayer is not organized, then the entire jamaat falls into sin. It is believed that the more people participate in the funeral prayer, the better for the deceased.

The Koran says that if a prayer for the repose is read by a large number of believers, then it will certainly be heard. In addition, the prophet said that if forty people read the funeral prayer, then Allah will certainly intercede for the deceased, and if the prayer text is read by three rows of Muslims, then the deceased will surely have Paradise. Moreover, it is very important that loved ones participate in the funeral prayer.

It should be understood that the funeral prayer can only be performed for the deceased Muslim. If the affiliation of the deceased to Islam is not proven, then Janazah prayer is not performed. A credible witness can confirm that a person was a Muslim.

It is possible to perform janazah prayer, both near the body of the deceased, if the burial rite was not performed, and at the grave of a person after a certain time has passed. The funeral prayer can be read if the body of the deceased, if it was not significantly damaged. If it so happened that death occurred due to terrible injuries, and at the same time any parts of the body are missing, then the body is not washed and jamaz prayer is not performed. The body of the deceased is simply wrapped in a piece of cloth and buried.

The theme of death is one of the key in any religion. And this is not surprising, because it is the thoughts of the inevitable departure to the Eternal world that largely determine the behavior of believers in earthly life.

In Islam, much attention is paid to ensuring that a person will be rewarded with a better fate after death. Relatives, friends and relatives of the deceased, as a rule, pray to the Almighty to place the soul of the deceased in the Gardens of Eden and forgive his sins. This purpose is served by various duas, the texts of which are given below. Caught next to the dying by a person, at the moment when the eyes of the deceased are closed, it is advisable to turn to Allah with the following prayer:

"Allahummyagfir (say the name of the deceased) uarfyag darajyatahu fil-madiyana wahlufhu fii a’kybihi fil-gabiriinya waagfirlyana wa lahu ya rabbalal alyamiin. Wafsi lahu fii kabrihi wa nyauuir lahu fiih "

Meaning translation:“Oh Allah! sorry (deceased's name), raise his degree among those led by the right path, become his successor for those who remain after him, forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds! And make spacious for him his grave and light it for him!”

Many Muslims know the phrase that should be pronounced, upon hearing the news of someone's death:

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

Innya lillahi, ya innya ilyakhi rajigun

Verily, we belong to Allah and to Him we return!

Directly after burial It is advisable to turn to the Almighty with the following words:

"Allahummya-gfir lahullahummya sabbithu"

Meaning translation:"O Allah, forgive him! O Allah, strengthen him!” In the biography of the Grace of the Worlds of Muhammad (S.G.V.) it is mentioned that usually after the completion of the burial, the Prophet (S.G.V.) stood for several minutes at the grave, and then addressed the audience: “Pray (your Creator) for forgiveness for your brother (sister) and ask Allah (him or her) to strengthen, for, truly, now he (she) is being asked questions ”(Abu Dawud and al-Bayhaki). Further, remembering those who have gone to another world brothers and sisters, Muslims resort to special duas - they can be read both in their native language and in Arabic. Here are some examples of such prayers:

“Allahummyaghfir-lyahu uarhyamhu wagafihi waagfu a'nhu wa akrim nuzullyahu wa waassi' mudhaalyahu waagsilhu bil-mya-i wassalji wabaradi wa nyakkyhi minyal-hataaya kyamya nyakkaityal-syaubyal-abyada minyad-dyanyasi wa abdilhu dyaran khairan min darihi wa ahlal khairan min ahlihi uaziaujyan khairan min zyaujihi wa-ajilhul-jyannyatya wa agyinzhu min a'zyabil-kabri wa a'zyabin-nyar"

Meaning translation:“O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him and deliver him and show him mercy. And give him a good welcome and make his entrance(meaning the grave - approx. website )spacious, and wash it with water, snow and hail(i.e., a request is metaphorically expressed to provide the deceased with all kinds of graces and grant him forgiveness for all his sins and omissions - approx. website ), and cleanse him of sins just as You cleanse white clothes from dirt, and give him in return a house better than his house, and a family better than his family, and a wife better than his wife, and enter into paradise, and protect him from the torment of the grave and from the torment of fire!(This text of the dua is given in the hadith narrated by Muslim)

“Allahummya-gfir lihiyyanya wa myyyitinya wa shahidinya waga-i-binya wa sagyirinya wa kabiiirinya wa zyakyarinya uya unxianya. Allahhummya myan ayayahu minnya fya-ahyhihi a’lal-islamy wa myan tyayuyaffyahu minnya fyatyauaffyahu a’lal-name. Allahhummya la tyahrimna ajrahu wa la tudyllyanya byadyah "

Meaning translation:“O Allah, forgive our living and dead, present and absent, young and old, men and women! O Allah, make sure that those of us whom You give life live according to (the regulations of) Islam, and those of us whom You give rest, rest in faith! Oh Allah, do not deprive us of the reward for it(that is, rewards for patience during trials - approx. website ) and do not lead us astray after him (i.e. after his death)!”(Occurs in the hadith collections of Ibn Maji and Ahmad).

"Allahummy innya (deceased's name) fii zimmyatikya hyabli dzhyavyarikya fakihi min fitnyatil-kaabri wa a’zaabin-nnyari wa antya ahlul-vyafya-i vyal-hyakk. Fyaghfirlyahu varhyamhyu innyakya antal-gafurur-rahiim"

Meaning translation:"O Allah, indeed (deceased's name) is under Your protection and protection, save him from the temptation of the grave and the torment of fire. After all, You keep promises and show justice! Forgive him and have mercy on him, verily, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful!”(This dua is given in the hadith from Ibn Maji and Abu Dawud).

“Allahummya a’bdukya vyabnu amyatikya ikhtyadzhya ilya rahmyatikya wa antya ganiyyun a’n a’zabihi in kyanya mukhsinn fyazid fii hyasyanyatihi wa in kyanya musii-an fatyadzhyauzz a’nhu”

Meaning translation:“Oh Allah! Your servant and the son of Your servant needed Your mercy, and You do not need his torment! If he did good deeds, then add them to him, and if he did bad deeds, then do not charge him!”(The text of the dua according to the hadith transmitted by al-Hakim).

There is also a separate dua, which is resorted to in the situation of the ascension of the funeral prayers for a dead child

"Allahumma-ja'lhu lyanya fyaratan wa salaafyan wa ajran"

Translation:“O Allah, make it so that he is ahead of us (in paradise) and becomes our predecessor and reward for us!”

Dua in the cemetery

It is known that Muslims regularly visit the graves of their loved ones and ancestors. is also part of the tradition of holding the main Islamic holidays - Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram) and Eid al-Fitr (Eid al-Fitr).

Aisha bint Abu Bakr (r.a.) said that the Prophet Muhammad (s.g.v.) often went to the churchyard of Al-Baqi and said such text dua at the entrance to the cemetery:

"Assalyamu alaikum! Darra kaumin mukminina, wa atakum mat tuaduna, gadan muajzhalun, wa innya, inshallah, bikum lyakhikun. Allahum-agfirli ahli Bakiil-Gharkad ”(hadith from Muslim)

Meaning translation: "Peace to you! O those who are in the abode of the faithful, the promise has come, and tomorrow the turn will come for us, and, truly, be it the will of the Lord, we will come to you. Oh Lord! Forgive the sins of those buried on Baki."

In addition, while staying in places of mass graves of people, you can say the words:

“Assalamu alaikum, yaa ahlil-kubur. Yagfirullahu la nahua lakum. An-tum salafuna, wa nah-nu bil-asaar ”(Tirmizi)

Meaning translation: “Peace to you who are underground (in the graves). May the Almighty forgive you and us. You have passed into the other world before, and we will be next.”

But how useful for dead people will be good deeds done in their favor - prayer and alms? This question occupies the minds of Islamic scholars, among whom there are those who question the possibility of helping the dead with living people.

Arguments of those who are in favor

To begin with, it is necessary to give arguments that will allow an affirmative answer to the above question: 1. The Holy Quran contains an verse that describes how new generations of Muslims will ask for forgiveness for their deceased predecessors:

“And those who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers who believed before us! Do not plant in our hearts hatred and envy for those who believed. Our Lord! "" (59:10)

This verse is an example of how Muslims should address the Almighty for previous generations of Muslims who have already left this world. If there were no special benefit for the dead in this action, then, obviously, the revelation of such an verse would not make sense. 2. Very often you can find a hadith that talks about deeds that benefit a person after death. “When a person dies, the list of his good deeds closes [that is, it can no longer be replenished], however, three actions will bring him reward in the grave. It is an alms given to other people who continue to use it, the production of knowledge and a well-bred child who will pray for his parent after his death ”(Muslim). 3. (funeral prayer) is, in fact, a request to the Creator for the forgiveness of the sins of the deceased. In addition, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at the completion of all the necessary procedures for preparing the deceased for burial, said to the companions the following words: “Make dua for the salvation of the soul of our brother, his manifestation of stamina and firmness, because right now he is being tested in grave" (Abu Dawud). In another hadith, which is given in the collection of Imam Muslim, it is said that people who come to the funeral prayer will actually intercede for the deceased. If there are at least a hundred such people, then Allah will accept their intercession for him. 4. In a hadith transmitted by Aisha (r.a.), it is reported that once a man addressed the Final Messenger of the Almighty (s.g.v.) and asked: “My mother died. Despite this, I feel that if she were alive, she would give alms to those in need. Can I do this deed instead of her now?” The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) answered this question in the affirmative (cited by Bukhari and Muslim). 5. Another argument in favor of the need to pray for the salvation of the souls of the dead is the norm from Islamic law, which allows you to make a pilgrimage (hajj) for the deceased. 6. In one of the hadiths of the Mercy of the worlds of Muhammad (s.g.v.) the following situation is given. A sheep was brought to him, which he slaughtered himself. After that, the Prophet (pbuh) said: “For the pleasure of the Almighty. Allah is great! I performed this action for myself personally and for all those members of my community who could not perform the sacrifice ”(Abu Dawood, Tirmizi).

Arguments of Opponents of Prayer for the Dead

Many other arguments can be cited in favor of the need to perform good deeds on behalf of the deceased. However, representatives in the Middle Ages strongly opposed this. Here are some of their arguments: 1) The Mu'tazilites, who preached in their writings the need to rely solely on reason when studying the Holy Quran, cite the following verse:

"Every man is a hostage to what he has acquired" (74:38)

They argue that a person cannot count on success at the expense of other people. However, the Mu'tazilites overlook the fact that the verse refers only to sinful deeds. The verse does not apply to good deeds. 2) Another verse of the Holy Qur'an was a frequent tool in the hands of the Mu'tazilites:

“A person will receive only what he aspired to” (53:39)

From this follows the conclusion that the servant of Allah cannot count on the deeds committed by other people. However, this argument of the Mu'tazilites can be answered from several positions at once. Let's start with the fact that the above verse is. Its legal component is replaced by the verse from Surah "Mountain":

“We will reunite the believers with their descendants who followed them in the faith, and we will not diminish their deeds in the least” (52:21)

Islamic theologians interpret this text of the Holy Scripture in the sense that on the Day of Judgment, the righteous children of their parents will be able to weigh down their scales, which will contain good deeds. This is also stated in the above hadith about three things that will bring God's reward to a person after death. Further, it is worth noting that the verse cited by the Mu'tazilites refers to the infidels and those who hypocritically covered themselves with Islam. In some narrations, it is stated that the person mentioned in the verse is Abu Jahl, who brought much harm to the first Muslims and left this world in disbelief. Thus, the Mu'tazilite view of the issue under consideration is rejected by the vast majority of Muslim scholars.

The body of the deceased is simply wrapped in a piece of cloth and buried.

how to order a prayer for the deceased in the mosque? our friend was a muslim

If you are looking for some analogue of a prayer service in the Muslim religion, then in general it does not exist. Muslim rituals are somewhat different from what you are used to in Christianity.

After death, there is a rite of Janaz prayer (something like the funeral of the deceased) when a prayer is made for the deceased. You can read more about this here:

Usually the rite of Janaz is not performed indoors, but in the courtyard of the mosque there is a special place for this.

So if your friend is not yet buried, then of course you should contact the mosque to be buried according to the laws of his faith. Contact any mosque in your city. They will help you.

Here are a few of them:

(from the collection “Muslim's Fortress”)

WORDS OF PRAYER FOR THE DEAD, SPEAKED DURING THE FUTURE PRAYER.

At your request, we perform the following worship: - dua - prayer for the departed;

Novoselov, for those in trouble, for the dead. The recommended transfer to the settlement account of the Apanaevskaya Mosque is only one hundred rubles.

How can dua help a dead person?

In Islam, much attention is paid to ensuring that a person will be rewarded with a better fate after death. Relatives, friends and relatives of the deceased, as a rule, pray to the Almighty to place the soul of the deceased in the Gardens of Eden and forgive his sins. This purpose is served by various duas, the texts of which are given below.

"Allahummagfir (say the name of the deceased) uerfeg derajetahu fil-madiyine uehlufhu fii a’kybihi fil-gabiriine uegfirlenee ue lehu ye rabbel alyamiin. Wefsi leehu fii kabrihi ue neuuir leehu fiih"

Translation:“Oh Allah! sorry (deceased's name), raise his degree among those led by the right path, become his successor for those who remain after him, forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds! And make spacious for him his grave and light it for him!”

Many Muslims know the phrase that should be pronounced when hearing the news of someone's death:

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

Inne liLlahi, ue inne ileihi rajigun

Verily, we belong to Allah and to Him we return!

Immediately after the burial, it is advisable to turn to the Almighty with the following words:

"Allahumme-gfir lehullahumme sabbithu"

Translation:"O Allah, forgive him! O Allah, strengthen him!”

"Allahummegfir-lehu uerkhemhu uegafihi uefu a'nhu ue akrim nuzullahu ue wessi' mudhalahu uegsilhu bil-me-i wesselji ueberadi ue nekkyhi minel-hataaye kemee nekkaitel-saubel-ebyada min ed-denesi ue abdilhu deran khairan min deerihi ue ehlal khairan min ehlihi uezeujen khairan min zeudjihi ue-ajilhul-dzhennete ue egyinzhu min a'zebil-kabri ue a'zebin-neer"

Translation:“O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him and deliver him and show him mercy. And give him a good welcome and make his entrance(meaning grave) approx. islam.global ) spacious, and wash it with water, snow and hail(i.e., a request is metaphorically expressed to provide the deceased with all kinds of graces and grant him forgiveness for all his sins and omissions - approx. islam.global ), and cleanse him of sins just as You cleanse white clothes from dirt, and give him in return a house better than his house, and a family better than his family, and a wife better than his wife, and enter into paradise, and protect him from the torment of the grave and from the torment of fire!(This text of the dua is given in the hadith narrated by Muslim)

“Allahumme-gfir lihiyyene ue meyyitinee ue sheekhidinee uega-i-binee ue sagyirinee ue kebiiirine ue zekerinee ue unsenee. Allahumme men ahyeitehu minne fe-ehyihi a’lel-islamy ue men teueffeitehu minnee fateweffehu a’lel-imeen. Allahumme le tehrimne ejrahu ue lee tudyllene be'deh"

Translation:“O Allah, forgive our living and dead, present and absent, young and old, men and women! O Allah, make sure that those of us whom You give life live according to (the regulations of) Islam, and those of us whom You give rest, rest in faith! Oh Allah, do not deprive us of the reward for it(that is, rewards for patience during trials approx. islam.global ) and do not lead us astray after him (i.e. after his death)!”(Occurs in the hadith collections of Ibn Maji and Ahmad).

“Allahumme a’bduke uebnu emetice ihteje ilee rahmetike ue ente ganiyyun a’n a’zeebihi in keene muhsinn fazid fii haseneetihi ue in keene musii-en fatejeeuzz a’nhu”

Translation:“Oh Allah! Your servant and the son of Your servant needed Your mercy, and You do not need his torment! If he did good deeds, then add them to him, and if he did bad deeds, then do not charge him!”(The text of the dua according to the hadith transmitted by al-Hakim).

There is also a separate dua, which is resorted to in a situation of offering a funeral prayer for a deceased child:

"Allahumme-ja'lhu lenee faratan ue selefen ue ejran"

Translation:“O Allah, make it so that he is ahead of us (in paradise) and becomes our predecessor and reward for us!”

Arguments of those who are in favor

To begin with, it is necessary to give arguments that will allow an affirmative answer to the above question:

“And those who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers who believed before us! Do not instill hatred and envy in our hearts for those who believe. Our Lord! Verily, You are the Compassionate, the Merciful” (59:10)

This verse is an example of how Muslims should address the Almighty for previous generations of Muslims who have already left this world. If there were no special benefit for the dead in this action, then, obviously, the revelation of such an verse would not make sense.

Arguments of Opponents of Prayer for the Dead

Many other arguments can be cited in favor of the need to perform good deeds on behalf of the deceased. However, representatives of the Mutazilite school in the Middle Ages strongly opposed this. Here are some of their arguments:

"Every man is a hostage to what he has acquired" (74:38)

They argue that a person cannot count on success at the expense of other people. However, the Mu'tazilites overlook the fact that the verse refers only to sinful deeds. The verse does not apply to good deeds.

“A person will receive only what he aspired to” (53:39)

From this follows the conclusion that the servant of Allah cannot count on the deeds committed by other people. However, this argument of the Mu'tazilites can be answered from several positions at once.

Of course, a person can pray for the soul of the deceased, nothing bad will come of this to anyone.

Will these prayers help the deceased in Eternal life, will they become a relief for him at the moment when he becomes responsible for his actions?

In my opinion, the article gives an exhaustive answer.
