    I was recently asked to make some simple homemade cookies with colored sugar icing. I had to look in my notes for a successful recipe that would be inexpensive, but at the same time, so that the baked goods would turn out tasty and beautiful. I chose the option that was once my favorite.

    You need a lot of ingredients for the dough, but they are all available. Plus, one serving makes quite a lot of cookies. One of the most important components is potato starch, which makes it possible to make baked goods more crumbly and tender. Everything is prepared quickly, in a hurry, and can be stored for a long time if not eaten immediately.

    Ingredients:

    • flour – 3 tbsp.
    • butter – 150 g
    • potato starch – 125 g
    • salt - a pinch.
    • soda – ½ tsp.
    • baking powder – ½ tsp.
    • sugar – 1 glass
    • milk – 2/3 cup
    • egg – 1 pc.
    • vanilla sugar – 1 sachet

    • powdered sugar - about 200 g

    How to cook:


    1. Butter should be at room temperature. Then it can be easily whipped. Place it in a bowl and beat with a mixer. But you can just mash it with a fork. Add sugar, vanilla sugar (prepared at home) and grind (or beat) everything together until smooth.
    2. Add one egg.

    4. Sift the entire portion of flour into a separate bowl, add baking powder, soda, salt, and starch (sifted).

    5. Pour half of the dry mixture into the butter mixture. Mix.

    6. Pour in milk.

    7. And add the rest of the dry mixture.

    8. Knead the dough and form a ball. We wrap it in film. Place in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours or in the freezer for 30-40 minutes.

    9. Take out the chilled dough and roll it into a layer 0.3-0.5 cm thick. Please note that the cookies will grow well in the oven. Therefore, we make it thinner. Squeeze out the hearts using molds.

    10. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Place in a preheated oven. Bake cookies at home at 180 degrees for about 15 minutes.

    11. Take the rosy hearts out of the oven. Let them cool. And we send off the next batch to bake. I made almost four batches from one batch of dough.

    12. Let's prepare the icing for the cookies. Sift the powdered sugar into a deep plate. Pour 3-4 tbsp into a separate cup. lemon juice or citric acid diluted in water. There's food coloring in there too. And gradually mix.

    13. You need to add liquid until you get the consistency of liquid sour cream. Here it is important to catch the moment so that the glaze is not thick, but not too liquid.

    14. We cover our homemade heart cookies with the resulting fondant and let them dry on parchment or on a wire rack. Excess glaze may drip off. If desired, you can decorate the cookies with sprinkles by sprinkling them onto the icing that has not yet hardened.

    Note to the owner:

    • This sugar glaze can be used to decorate gingerbread, Easter cakes, cookies or shortcakes. It does not dry quickly, but then does not lose its shape. If you thought the glaze was dry after half an hour, it's not. It's soft inside. If you start packing the cookies, you will immediately see that the icing begins to melt and lose its shape. Therefore, let it dry thoroughly, even overnight.
    • If you like chocolate chip cookies, add 1-2 tbsp. cocoa powder. In this case, you need to take 1-2 tbsp less flour. Or use one of the ready-made
