Devil's ravine in the Pskov region near the village of Lyady. Devil's ravine in the Pskov region

Devil's Ravine, Pskov region, is a place that gained notoriety relatively recently - just 15 years ago. In 2003, a pensioner disappeared in these places, which was published in the newspaper. It was then that it turned out that this was not the first case of disappearances, and old-timers remember other mysterious stories. After some time, the pensioner was found. He turned out to be an avid mushroom picker who went on a “quiet hunt” in the Devil’s Ravine. But, like many others who find themselves in the anomalous zone, he subsequently did not remember anything except that he was lost.

Where is Devil's Ravine?

If you try to find such a place on a map of Russia or, for example, on Wikipedia, you might think that we are talking about an area in the north. But the mysterious Devil's Ravine is located in the Pskov region near the village of Lyady (Plyussky district). The nearest city is Gdov.

This area near the village is overgrown with ferns every year - as if nature itself protects those who want to get here. However, this does not stop mushroom pickers. As a result, many pay with unpleasant experiences, and some, probably with their lives.

Mysterious disappearances

Among the most famous disappearances of people in the Devil's Ravine area is the case when a group of seven people who came from Leningrad in search of a rich harvest of mushrooms disappeared. Two mushroom pickers managed to get out after a week of wandering in the forest, but five were never found.

Similar cases occurred repeatedly. There are mentions that several peasants disappeared here in the pre-revolutionary period. It is also known that seven lumberjacks died. I claim that nine families living nearby became victims of the ravine. But it is hardly possible to verify now how true this is.

Many local residents flatly refuse to go near the ravine. But there are also many skeptics who are sure that all this is fiction. According to one version, the ravine is indeed an unsafe place, but solely due to natural features (complex shape, multiple turns, thickets of vegetation, reflection of sounds). Because of this, people become disorientated and cannot find their way out of the forest.

Perhaps someday the secret of this strange place will be revealed, but for now the passages into the ravine are blocked with trees, which, however, does not stop mushroom hunters and adventure lovers.

Almost every district of the Pskov region has its own anomalous zones - real mysteries for scientists. Spiritual Mountain, Devil's Ravine, the "prodigal forest" where a woman's cry is heard, and chronomirages in an ancient monastery - especially for lovers of mysticism, we have compiled a map of the main mysteries of the region.

Dukhova Mountain

Getting to it is quite simple: from Pskov to the regional center of Opochka - 135 km, then the highway to Krasnogorodsk is another 7 km, and a little to the side - to the village of Kirovo, and there everyone will show you where the attraction is located. The mountain itself is a kind of elevation (about 300 m above sea level), on the top of which there is an ancient chapel. Several years ago it burned down, but thanks to the efforts of well-wishers, a new one soon appeared in this place. However, the number of pilgrims there is not decreasing.

A legend has survived to this day that Ivan the Terrible ordered the compilation of a register of the holy places of Rus'. It was then that Dukhova Mountain appeared on the royal list, which at the end of the 16th century. was already a famous holy place.

Local residents assure that by standing on it, you can be so charged with positive energy that a person feels as if he came out of a steam room, or vice versa - you can feel a severe loss of strength. In addition, among the population of the surrounding villages there is still a legend that Dukhova Mountain can take revenge on people for their disrespectful attitude towards it.

When we visited there for the first time, we were shown the graves of two brothers who, during their lifetime, dabbled heavily in wine. Once, after getting drunk, they fired their guns towards the anomalous zone. Local residents later assured that the mountain took revenge on them in the most terrible way. You may not believe this, but the fact remains: in just six months, Dukhova Mountain brought both shooters to the grave. I am sure that a lot depends on the moral nature of a person: if you come there with pure thoughts, you will receive help, and sometimes healing from illnesses, but if you have an evil heart, you can be punished.

Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

According to our interlocutor, the anomaly of this place is obvious: measurements were taken there using a special framework, and it turned out that at the top of the mountain there are, as if in parallel, two energy flows: one ascending and the other descending. And so strong that the frames were literally turned 180 degrees. What is their nature? One can only guess about this.
Although our expert assures us that in this case we are dealing with so-called infrasonic radiation, which, entering a resonant state with the human body, has a certain effect on it. As a result, an unconscious feeling of horror may develop.
People who find themselves in the Bermuda Triangle face approximately the same thing. Unmotivated fear more than once led to the crew of the ship hastily abandoning it. When the ship was found, they were surprised that sometimes coffee that had not yet cooled down was found in the cockpits. Apparently, Dukhova Mountain has similar properties.

Unbearable heat

The anomalies also include the Eleazarovsky Monastery (only 30 km from Pskov along the Gdovskoye Highway - Note by S.N.), or more precisely, the upper aisle of the main cathedral, where, according to legend, the founder of the monastery, the Monk Efrosin, is buried. The last statement is very controversial, but all sources agree on one thing: this place is extraordinary. They tell, for example, how a certain demon-possessed parishioner suddenly fainted here. She was unconscious for a long time, and when she came to, she could not remember what had happened to her.

They say that if you hold your hand over a grave, you suddenly begin to feel an unbearable warmth - alas, the author of these lines was not able to personally feel its power: what I bought for is what I sell for. But everyone (including local residents) is convinced that the temple has some incredible power. It’s strange, but almost all residents of Elizarovo suffer from severe pain in their legs. And they explain it as... punishment: at the time there was a club here, and the local youth danced their hearts out. Now these are old people who attribute their illness to their sinful youth.

Chronomirages
Another place that also occupies the imagination of researchers of the unknown is Nikandrova Hermitage. According to authoritative ufologists, this is one of two (!) officially recognized anomalous zones in the North-West. The first is located in the Myasnoy Bor region of the Novgorod region, and the second is in the Nikandrova desert of the Porkhov region.

Both are characterized by the fact that from time to time... chronomirages appear there. What it is? It is difficult to answer this question, especially since eyewitness accounts are very contradictory. However, according to the famous Pskov journalist Oleg Konstantinov, he personally had a chance to see something mysterious:

When we arrived there for the first time, there was practically little left of the monastery itself: it was destroyed before the war. True, pilgrims have already begun to enter there. In particular, the grave of St. Nikander was also furnished. I went there to take a few pictures, but, not reaching 10-15 meters, I noticed that someone was standing next to her. In appearance, it seemed to be a monk. As he approached the place, he seemed to dissolve into thin air, and then disappeared completely. Later, in the specialized literature, I came across such a term as “chronomirage”. I think that I witnessed this unusual phenomenon.

Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

The Nikandrovsky Monastery is possibly a geoactive anomalous zone located on the site of a destroyed monastery in the Porkhovsky district of the Pskov region. Local residents say that from time to time they see ghostly figures of ancient ghost monks in the ruins.
At the site of the destroyed Nikandrovsky Monastery in the Pskov region, ghosts or, most likely, chronomirages are seen quite often. Local residents say that from time to time they encounter ghostly figures of ancient monks-ghosts in the ruins (you can’t confuse modern monks with them, especially since they are not there). Someone once met two seemingly tangible monks (they could hear their conversation and, it seems, even the breath of the breeze from the fluttering robes), an eyewitness tried to capture the local exoticism on film, but instead of two monks in the picture there were only 2 luminous spots. In March 2000, locals in this place told how, literally shortly before, they drove into the monastery on motorcycles and noticed a strange nun. The woman walked around the motorcycle and suddenly disappeared (“as if through the earth”) out of the blue. After that, the motorcycle stopped starting, and I had to push it for about twenty kilometers."

Damn ravine

Another mysterious place in the Pskov region is the so-called Devil's Ravine. Rumors about his treachery have long worried local residents. They say that already before the revolution, reports of mysterious disappearances appeared in provincial newspapers. For example, in 1928, seven people disappeared there at once - a team of lumberjacks. In 1931, there was another case when nine people died at once in a ravine. In 1974, a group of mushroom pickers from Leningrad allegedly disappeared in the “devil’s ravine”. Two of them were found a week later. Exhausted, they could not say anything about the fate of their comrades. Is this place really so unique?

All this is nonsense! My aunt and all her relatives lived their entire lives in the village of Rudno, next to which this very Devil’s Ravine is located, and... nothing. No one ever disappeared or got lost there, until one mushroom picker got lost there. This happened relatively recently - then the guys from the local Emergencies Ministry squad looked for him. Of course, they found it, but think about it: he is an elderly man (over seventy), so it’s no wonder that he lost his way back. Unfortunately, it turned out that his son works in one of the central television channels.

This circumstance, I think, played a certain role in the emergence of various kinds of ridiculous rumors, which were then picked up by the “yellow press”, and most of all, they came up with themselves. If we talk about real miracles, the most famous is the so-called “God’s stone” in the village of Zayanye - about thirty kilometers from us. It's a remote place, but it has its own church and this very stone. It stands out because it seems to have a human foot imprinted on it. Everyone goes and worships him and says that he grants wishes. I also find it hard to believe in this, but in any case more than in the horror stories about the Devil’s Ravine.
Natalya Derienko, deputy of the volost council

And there is also Petrakova Lyadina (this is the Kunyinsky district. - Author's note), where, according to conversations of local residents, some strange figures have been observed more than once, which in the modern interpretation can be conditionally called “aliens.” There, in the town of Tsigelna, there is a “prodigal forest”, where a “girl is constantly crying”, and you can easily get lost there.

A little further, in Lake Žilina, an oil stain and rust constantly appear on the water - perhaps something is located at depth? How can one not remember Alexander Sergeevich with his Lukomorye, where “miracles, where the devil roams...” But if someone doesn’t believe it, they can check it themselves. If, of course, you have enough courage.

Expert opinion.
Victor Bobrov, president of the public organization "Mir" for the study of anomalous research

— Personally, I studied five anomalous zones, although it can be assumed that there are actually many more. Moreover, one of our latest discoveries is located not far from Old Izborsk. Just 5 km. It looks like a simple slope, but when you enter the zone, you begin to experience severe discomfort: dizziness, nausea. For the sake of the purity of the experiment, I went there several times, and each time the effect was the same. Another place that we also examined is located in the Loknyansky district. This is the hill where we captured some strange black orbs.

Moreover, the shooting took place in complete darkness, but the camera “caught” them. When we started climbing this mountain the next morning, we could clearly smell the ozone. In this place the grass was noticeably taller and greener. From where, you ask? After all, there was no trace of a thunderstorm. I also classify this fact as inexplicable. In general, it should be said that there are enough such phenomena that raise a lot of questions.

The fact is that the level of our knowledge today is still too low to give a logical and - I emphasize - scientific explanation for these phenomena. For this purpose (to describe and record the unusual), our organization “World” was created, which is actually an abbreviation: mysticism and reality. In this sense, I see my task as separating legends and rumors from real physical facts and systematizing them. This is all we can do today...

LOKNYANSKAYA POLYANA
Since ancient times, in the predictions and myths of various peoples, there have been stories about those unexplored places where incredible events occur. Previously, such places were called gathering places for witches. Now they are called “anomalous zones”. One ill-fated clearing in the Pskov region belongs precisely to such a zone. Here, in the Loknyansky district, there is a place that local residents practically do not talk about.

This place is Loknyanskaya glade. There is a belief that everyone who talks a lot about this clearing knows it prematurely. And these fears are confirmed by facts... Over the past 50 years, located a few kilometers from the regional town, the village has almost completely died out. But many of the people died by accident. Some from unknown diseases, some were killed by a horse's hoof, some drowned in the river. Rumors about this place began to appear about 50 years ago. Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

Then two boys, looking for lost cows, stumbled upon a charred clearing. Imagine their surprise when the cows, which were approaching the center of the clearing, burst into flames and fell underground. The teenagers immediately rushed to the village to talk about what they saw. After their story, one boy's grandfather remembered his father's stories. In them he warned that there was a large funnel in the forest - a hole that terrified all the local residents.

Various legends said that under the funnel there is an underground world, from which strange creatures emerge at night and kidnap children. On a sunny day there is always fog here, and some strange shadows walk across the clearing. Anyone who crosses the border of the Loknyanskaya glade disappears without a trace. And if someone manages to leave this clearing, he will be under the influence of hypnosis for several years.

Another legend said that on the site of this bad clearing, there was a castle that belonged to more than one generation of Russian princes. Once, when there was a strong thunderstorm, he was struck by several lightning bolts, from which he instantly went underground. After a while, dried trees and bushes formed around the clearing, intertwining their branches to create a dense ring.

The crater was closing in, but being here was still very dangerous. This clearing had beautiful vegetation, which attracted numerous animals to it. They died immediately, but their bodies took several years to decompose. This anomalous zone increasingly covered neighboring villages, negatively affecting the psyche of the residents. They tried to leave this place, but after traveling halfway, for unknown reasons, they turned back. It felt like something was pulling them back.

The most recent manifestation of anomalous phenomena in this clearing was an incident that forced absolutely all people to leave their homes forever. This happened after many days of rain, as a result of which the ancient cemetery was completely washed away. What people saw caused them a real shock - all the bodies buried several decades ago had not even decomposed. And their clothes were preserved in excellent condition.

Since that time this village has been completely empty. But even now desperate seekers of the unknown are still interested in this killer clearing. Many of them come here and decide to go towards the solution, realizing that they may never return...

Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

It turned out that in the very first minutes of the journey some unknown force, as they say, put a spoke in her wheels. The key got stuck in the door (I had to call a locksmith), the car wouldn’t start for a long time, and a pigeon crashed into the car window at full speed, almost causing an accident. Having reached the settlement we had designated, she wandered through the forest for a long time, and when she finally found “Kind Man,” it began to get dark. However, Angelina did not need a flashlight. The full moon illuminated the forest clearing no worse than a village lantern, and its radiance seemed “eerie” to the girl. As it turned out later, her appearance in the Pskov forest coincided with the time of a lunar eclipse.

As it should be in ancient rituals, I walked around the stone three times,” says Angelina. - However, even one walk around was enough for me to establish the nature of this stone. Its energy is identical to that emitted by the stone structures of the famous British Stone Henge and the ancient settlement of Arkaim in the Southern Urals. If we take as a basis the scientists’ version that these stones served as an ancient observatory, we can assume that the Pskov “Dobryak” was used for the same purpose. There’s one thing I can’t understand: how did a piece of debris from the British Isles appear in the Pskov region? Or did all these stones have a common origin? Walking through the clearing where “Dobryak” stands, I noticed another interesting feature. Her energy is clean and bright. The stone itself resembles an altar, and 12 young pines grow around it, like the 12 apostles. But a few meters from “Dobryak”, where the forest begins, waves of negativity are concentrated, even the trees when approaching the clearing have a characteristic bend. All these are signs of the energy of the holy place... Angelina did not remain in a sublime and mystical mood for long. When it got completely dark, she lit a fire at the foot of “Dobryak” (fortunately, this place was marked by numerous tourists), after which she decided to climb to the top of the stone and take a few pictures from above. Either the surface of the giant was wet, but the girl did not notice it, or her thoughts turned out to be not so innocent, but she could not keep her balance and fell to the ground from a decent height. Fortunately, the connection in the clearing worked well, the mobile phone was not discharged. Angelina quickly contacted her friends, gave the exact coordinates of the place, and three hours later they rushed to save her. At the hospital, the adventurer was diagnosed with a broken leg, a bruised shoulder and multiple burns. Therefore, she is sure that despite all the holiness of the stone and the many legends associated with its healing properties, “Kind Man” will not allow everyone to come to him. It is not clear on what principle the stone “scans” people and neutralizes unwanted ones, but the girl has no doubt that this happens.

We were luckier. After another visit to a forest clearing, journalists from Pskov Province, together with an expert on anomalous phenomena, Viktor Bobrov, not only returned safe and sound, but also learned a lot about the properties of the stone. In addition, we conducted one of the studies ourselves. Bobrov gave each of them two dowsing indicators (L-shaped copper wires) and suggested walking around the stone with them. The devices, which behaved quite peacefully five meters from the “Dobryak”, seemed to go berserk when approaching it. Random rotations at high speed were reminiscent of helicopter blades a minute before takeoff. However, Bobrov remained calm about this. And I didn’t see anything like that... But the behavior of the magnet surprised even an experienced researcher. In nature, iron ore should not be attracted to a stone surface under any circumstances. However, our “test subject” was perfectly able to stay upright on the Dobryak. Another device - a dosimeter - showed that the natural level of radiation was twice as high. That is, 26 microroentgens per hour when the norm is 12-14.

Whether the energy of the “Kind Man” has a positive or negative effect on a person is difficult to say. I believe that a lot depends on the dose of radiation and the individual characteristics of the body. After all, the same radon baths are salvation for some patients, and torture for others. By the way, one of the members of our association is a parapsychologist - a woman who senses subtle energies even from a distance. From the photograph, she determined that heat was coming from the stone, therefore positive energy. But this can only be confirmed after visual contact. I hope there will be another trip to Dobryak soon.

So, after all, our stone is safe for people, and the legends about its miraculous properties have a basis in reality? - we asked Bobrov upon returning to Pskov.

“I would not rush to conclusions, much less turn Dobryak into a place of mass pilgrimage,” the researcher warns. - This can lead to extremely undesirable consequences. It is especially dangerous to make fires at the foot of the stone. Once upon a time, rituals and sacrifices were held at this place, which were in one way or another connected with the use of bioenergy information. It was recorded both in stone and in trees - including in their leaves, roots, and young growth. When vacationers at this place mindlessly light fires, they disturb the bioenergy phone and risk receiving a huge wave of negativity with all the ensuing consequences. Subtle energies act hidden, but very powerfully. It's dangerous to joke with them.
At the end of the series of publications about “Dobryak”, the authors of these lines honestly intended to indicate his exact coordinates. But in light of what anomalous phenomena researcher Viktor Bobrov said, they decided not to do this. After all, journalists, like doctors, must act according to the principle “Do no harm.”

To paraphrase a well-known saying, everyone has their own path to the stone, and if you are destined to receive help from the “Kind Man,” you will certainly find it. A miracle “works” only when there is nothing and no one else to hope for. Or maybe you are able to help yourself, without any mysticism? All you have to do is take responsibility for your life and stop feeling like a victim.

However, this is not the end. Recently, local residents said that opposite “Dobryak” - more precisely, on the opposite side of the Lochka River - there are ancient caves in which robbers hid in the century before last. And this place is no less mysterious than a stone. As soon as the weather is suitable, Pskov Province journalists will go there on an expedition and tell you everything...

STONE IDOL IN PORECHYE

Once upon a time there lived a stone woman...
Near the village of Porechye, Strugo-Krasnensky district, there is a stone idol, which people worship to this day. Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

Scientists at the Pskov Museum-Reserve accidentally stumbled upon it during an archaeological expedition forty years ago. And they were amazed not by the fact that the idol was dressed in ordinary human clothing - this custom is ancient and has analogies in Ancient Greece. The Greeks dressed their ancient statues in clothing. For example, the statue of Athena, which stood on the Athenian Acropolis, was replaced once a year. Scientists were amazed by the very fact of modern people worshiping an idol. Since then, none of the museum employees have been to those parts. Candidate of Historical Sciences, senior researcher at the Pskov Museum-Reserve Anatoly Alexandrov suggested that together we find this very idol, popularly called Makovei. To be honest, I was skeptical about his idea. Knowing the current attitude of modern people towards historical monuments, especially those located in the wilderness, it seemed to me that time travel was absolutely futile: the idol was either broken or dragged to someone’s dacha. But Anatoly Alekseevich was full of optimism, which was based on a centuries-old, unwritten tradition that warned against doing anything bad to cult stones, because severe punishment would certainly overtake the culprit.

All we knew about the stone idol was that it stood near the village of Porechye. And we couldn’t do it without the help of the local residents of this village. However, my companion warned that there is a high probability that they will not make contact. The explanation why villagers are always reluctant to talk about “their” idols is very simple - we are talking about their small, village magic. There is no need for outsiders to know about it.

As fate would have it, Victoria Ivanova, who was working in her greenhouse, was the first to catch my eye in the village. She did not deny the obvious - the existence of the idol, but quickly sent us away: “for information” to the neighbors.

We are not local. We've only lived here for twenty years. “We don’t know anything about the idol,” said the hostess, walking us quickly to the gate.

Another resident of the village, Alla Gromova, also turned out to be quiet:

I am not indigenous. My grandmother lived here with her aunt, to whom I visited every year since the first grade for the holidays. The stone idol did not interest me then. And now there is no one to ask - everyone has died...

But we did not let up and continued to vying with each other to ask questions. As a result, we found out a lot of interesting things. Firstly, the stone idol is not called Makovei, as scientists wrote down from someone’s words 40 years ago, but the Stone Woman. Makovey is a village holiday celebrated in Porechye on Honey Spas - August 14th. On the eve of this day, residents brewed mash, baked pies, and set tables for relatives, friends, and acquaintances invited from all over the area. During the day they celebrated the holiday in the huts, and in the evening they went out for a walk. Secondly, next to the Stone Woman, according to rumor, a woman named Anastasia is buried. She was a believer.

People come and come in cars to see the Stone Woman. They ask her for healing, just like in St. Petersburg they go to Ksenia’s grave. They leave amulets, scarves, a ribbon, money,” Alla Mikhailovna admitted and explained how to get to the idol.

Within a few minutes, the lost, but not lost world of the harmonious pagan worldview system of our people - the ancestors of modern Russians - was revealed to us. The stone woman is surrounded by a fence. A giant maple tree grows inside the fence, under which the idol stands. Opposite the idol is a wooden Orthodox cross. Ribbons are tied to the fence and maple tree. Anatoly Alexandrov removed the scarf from the idol and examined it carefully. Unlike me, a person who does not feel the subtle world, he felt the strongest energy coming from the stone. We were not at all surprised that mobile communications did not work here, although 20-30 steps away our phones suddenly began to pick up their mobile operators perfectly.

You can enjoy touching someone else’s secret of people who have lived in this place for hundreds of years. But is it worth coming to the Stone Woman not as a tourist, but in the hope of healing, if we do not know and do not understand the algorithm of the idol’s operation as part of a pagan, cult system? It’s not for nothing that in the Pskov region there is a village belief - it’s commonplace not to sit on any stones in the field. But an idol is, moreover, not just a stone...

SNAKES UNDER VERBILOV
Residents of the village of Verbilovo, near Pustoshka (Pskov region), have more than once encountered huge reptiles in the forest - up to 4 meters in length. And recently, young people managed to kill one of the reptiles. A photo of a dead snake hanging from a tree appeared on the VKontakte social network. A heated debate immediately broke out: is this a photomontage? Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

No, these snakes really crawl there, and local residents have seen them more than once,” Lyudmila Trofimova, executive secretary of the editorial office of the newspaper “Forward,” told Komsomolskaya Pravda. - If you turn right at the exit from Pustoshka, you can get to an abandoned landfill, where local residents collect mushrooms and nuts. There they encountered these mutants. They say that these are definitely not snakes - no yellow circles are visible on their heads.

THE MYSTERY OF PIKE MOUNTAIN
What treasure does Pike Mountain keep?
The village of Shchuchya Gora, Karamyshevskaya volost, is not remarkable for anything special. Eight houses and forty local residents - that’s all her wealth. But the place where the settlement is located is truly fabulous. After five minutes of walking along Pike Mountain, you get the impression that you are high in the mountains.

However, this place can be called fabulous not only because of the landscape. The village is shrouded in an aura of mystery, which is diligently maintained by local residents. Methodist of the Pskov regional library Tatyana Ronina, who has been collecting materials on history for many years, handed over to the editor the memories of local resident Tatyana Ignatieva, which were recorded from the words of her grandmother and other old-timers. According to them, not two kilometers from the village, there is Thieves Mountain. They say that the name of the village was given by a thief nicknamed Pike. The area around it is wooded and mountainous. In the old days, robbers lived here and robbed rich carriages passing along the Catherine Highway. When a quarry was later made nearby, many human bones were found. And in front of Pike Mountain on the old road there was a large boulder on which there was a hole in the shape of a pistol - they said that the barrel of the pistol pointed in the direction of the treasure. They tried to dig for the treasure, but to no avail. Although if the treasures were found, it is unlikely that the lucky man would talk about it. And also to the side of the village there is a place called “farm” where a spring is located. Local residents, when they were cleaning it, discovered a slab at the bottom on which Old Church Slavonic letters were engraved. They wanted to lift it, but water gushed out from under the stove, rising one and a half meters.

Amazing story, isn't it? Even if there is not a word of truth in it. Although, as you know, there is no smoke without fire. We could not resist the temptation to check local legends and went to Karamyshevskaya volost. As an expert, inviting a young man named Alexander. He asked not to indicate his last name, but he spoke frankly about everything else. He earns his living by doing repairs, and spends most of his money on his hobby - examining the soil with a metal detector. Alexander emphasizes that he knows the boundaries of the archaeological zone well and does not violate current legislation. But the objects he found on the site of deserted villages are of great interest. Ancient royal coins, house icons, military trophies - all this “fuels” Alexander’s professional passion and forces him to improve. Now he can determine with almost one hundred percent accuracy the weight and material of the find to which the metal detector reacts. In general, it’s hard to imagine a better treasure expert.

We hit the road, and the first stop was the village of Bolshoye Zagorye. It was there, according to workers of the Karamyshevskaya volost, that the keeper of local legends, Tatyana Ignatieva, moved from Shchuchya Mountain. At a personal meeting, she willingly repeated everything she knew about the history of her native village, however, citing poor health, she refused to accompany us. Instead, the interlocutor very clearly explained to our driver how to get to the place we were interested in.

The village of Elakhnovo will be straight along the highway; before reaching it, turn left,” Tatyana said. - Although Vorovskaya Mountain is overgrown with trees, it is impossible not to notice it, and look for the quarry there. But I can’t say for sure about the boulder with an imprint resembling the barrel of a pistol. When we were little and ran to the pond to swim, it was still standing. But there were many accidents in that place, the road was straightened, and where that stone is now is unknown...

Before heading to the former den of bandits, we decided to explore Pike Mountain. Our expert's opinion was clear. There are indeed traces of robbery in this area, only from a much later period. According to Alexander, German fortifications were built a hundred meters from the village during the Great Patriotic War. To prove this, the search engine picked up a metal detector. Fifteen minutes of work, and the harvest is harvested. The fragments of German shells eloquently testified to the ongoing battles.

Finding the place indicated by Tatyana Ignatieva was not difficult. Here it is, the turn to Elakhnovo. So we go left. Having driven three hundred meters deep into the forest, the car stopped. Then off-road begins and... no hills, even remotely reminiscent of Thieves Mountain. But there were so many boulders that it was not possible to find in them the one that contained a print that looked like a pistol. We noticed how the stones lay, as if someone had specially collected them and moved them to the side. “Once upon a time there was arable land here,” said Alexander confidently, who had encountered such “natural compositions” more than once. The conclusion suggested itself: there could be a village near this place.

The metal detector in Alexander’s hands beeped incessantly. The expert continually removed rusty nails, fragments of dishes and other household items from the ground. And a few meters from the boulders we found charred logs... In general, that day everything turned upside down. They were looking for treasure and found the ruins of an old village. Later, after analyzing old German maps of 1820 and 1938, Alexander came to the conclusion that this village was called Treshchelinka. The volost administration agreed with him, clarifying that the settlement ceased to exist in the late 60s of the last century. What is of greater historical value: mythical treasures or real evidence of past life? In any case, we didn’t feel like we wasted our time.

Already on the way back, our driver noticed a high hillock located on the side of the road. It was impossible to drive past. We retrieved the metal detector from the trunk of the car again and climbed to the top of the hill. A quarry overgrown with trees could be seen from below. So here it is, Thieves Mountain! But, as one would expect, there was no treasure in it. Our expert suggested that during the war there was an observation post here, and soldiers of the Soviet Army took refuge, but history is silent about what happened before. This means that Pike still managed to trick us around his finger. Or there was no Pike at all... Now this is not so important. After all, as the Pskov local historian Ivanitsky rightly noted, “a legend is the most pleasant phenomenon: it covers the scattered fragments of a long-lost life with such picturesque greenery and illuminates it with such a fantastic light that, looking at them, the imagination and heart pleasantly rest.”

LEGEND OF PSCOV
After meeting with an uninvited guest, a series of failures began in the life of a Pskov resident
Over the past centuries, the city of Pskov has seen a lot and remembers a lot. But no, no, and something unusual will appear from this memory in our lives today. Unusual at first glance, but in reality it is one of the echoes of bygone times, an echo of events that happened long ago...

Pskov, Zapskovye, Herzen Street Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

If you walk across the Trinity Bridge and turn onto Herzen Street, then at the very beginning you can see an old building, of which there are still many in Pskov. The house was once adapted for a club, previously served as an administrative building, and before that - in the 20s of the past, 20th century - the ill-fated house was used as a prison.
A prison is not a club, especially during the harsh times of the Civil War in Russia, when long-suffering Pskov residents were tortured and often executed in prison. Poor Russian people! How much he carried on his shoulders. And to make his life more fun and joyful, the authorities turned not only church buildings into clubs, but also the same prisons, as in this case in Pskov.
In between club events, the club had to be guarded. Although it was not a palace of culture, there were objects of certain value in it, a club after all. Therefore, it was guarded by guards, the story of one of whom I want to convey today.

NIGHT GUEST
“...In mid-March 1997, as a watchman, I was in the semi-basement of the club. The clock showed the beginning of six in the morning. I wanted to sleep. There was a dog with me, who was at the exit from this room. I sat in the back of the room, fighting the overwhelming desire to sleep. Suddenly I noticed that my four-legged assistant had become somewhat restless. I became alert and noticed that the room had become noticeably colder.
Suddenly, something vague and faintly visible rushed past me, like a shadow, touching my clothes on my arm and leg in flight. The dog, in fright, rushed upstairs to the exit of the club, where he was later found with his eyes bulging from fear and his fur disheveled.
After a poorly distinguishable, incomprehensible entity touched me, I quickly jumped out of my chair and a second later I noticed a vague silhouette of someone or something that had already flown in the other direction.
- Scattered here! - I thought. - Found a place!
Where the night Valkyrie touched me, my clothes - the sleeve of a sweater and the leg of my pants - turned out to be wet: an incomprehensible gift from an incomprehensible night guest with incomprehensible intentions...
One must assume that her intentions were not at all good. After meeting an uninvited stranger (or stranger) in my life, a series of failures began. Problems arose with work, there were serious disagreements with my wife, I became seriously ill, and so on.
This ill-wisher (or ill-wisher) touched me with her ominous “wing” in order to make her mark on me for the deprivations that subsequently befell me. But why? How did I annoy her (him) personally that the choice fell on me?..”

LEGENDARY RATTLE TOWER
In one of the most picturesque corners of ancient Pskov, where the red-colored Pskova slowly bends around Lapina Hill, on a high and steep bank stands a once majestic and formidable, but now dilapidated tower. People call it Gremyachaya. Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region
True, clarification is necessary here. The surviving tower itself was formerly called Kosmodemyanskaya, after the name of the church of Cosmas and Damian that stood near it, and the real Gremyachaya Tower rose nearby, above the Gremyachesky Gate. But that old Gremyachaya tower was destroyed long ago, and its name was transferred to the neighboring Kosmodemyanskaya one. Yes, that’s how it remained for her.
It is difficult to find a more beautiful tower in Pskov than this one. But it’s not the highest of all (20 meters in height) and not the most powerful, but the ancient master tried and managed to find a place where he combined together the steep nature created by nature and the creation of human hands to the joy of the Pskovites and the impotent anger of his numerous enemies.
Gremyachaya (Kosmodemyanskaya) is perhaps the only tower in the city for which the exact date of its construction is known. In the Pskov Chronicle we read: “In the summer of 7033 (1525), the Great Prince Vasily Ivanovich ordered his clerk Misyur Munekhin to place a stone archer on Gremyachaya Mountain, above the Pskov River on a steep slope, and that summer he made a hiding place.”
It was in no way possible that such a creature lived in unconsciousness and obscurity for many centuries of her existence, that mysterious and enigmatic stories did not happen to her... And so it happened. Many legends are associated with this tower (or maybe with the previous one) among the people, especially legends associated with the dungeon of the tower.

LEGENDS OF THE RATTLE TOWER
Prince's Shadow
Once upon a time, a long time ago, people not only sowed grain, engaged in crafts and trade, built houses and temples, and raised children. Almost constantly, with a sword in their hands, they had to repel the attacks of knights and other hordes that had driven into their heads the unrealistic idea of taking possession of the freedom-loving people.
So it was that time: like a flock of kites, evil, merciless Teutons flew into the ancient city. You bastards just chose a convenient moment for themselves. Taking the Pskovites by surprise, the Teutons captured the city in a short but fierce battle, killing a small squad, and seized the wounded, losing consciousness Pskov Prince, shackled in heavy chains and brought to the Master of the Teutonic Order himself. They hoped, poor ones, that the proud Prince would kneel, admit his defeat and ask for mercy.
But no matter how hard the executioners-assistants tried, the enraged master did not achieve from the Prince either a request for mercy or slavish obedience; They didn’t even hear him groan.
Then the master ordered his dog-knights to build a high, high tower on the steep bank of the river, where the waters of Pskov break against a gray rocky ledge, and to imprison a courageous prisoner in it, so that he would constantly see and hear from the heights of the prison the torment and suffering of his people.
A year has already passed, and even more, and the Pskovites still endured bullying, languished under the heavy yoke of the Order’s enslavers, and more and more often turned their gaze with hope to the impregnable prison, where the Prince, chained in iron, but not broken, languished. Every groan, every insult inflicted on his people reached the Prince’s heart through the thickness of the stone walls, reverberating with burning pain in his aching soul. And then he rose from the cold stone floor, approached, rattling with heavy shackles, to the narrow opening of the loophole window and turned to the Pskovites with a call to rise up against the hated invaders, not to spare lives in order to gain the long-awaited freedom.
The Teutonic guards overheard the Prince’s calls and reported this to their superior. He became angry and frightened at the same time, and in panic fear of an uprising, he ordered the secret death of the rebellious Prince.
But nothing could stop the stormy wave of popular anger. Everyone who could hold a weapon in their hands rushed at their sworn enemies; there were no weapons at hand - they tormented the Teutons clad in armor with their bare hands. For a long time, furiously, silently, the Pskovites fought with their enemies all day long, and did not stop even in the dark night. And the Teutons almost took over the rebels.
But then a miracle happened. A dazzling lightning cut the black night sky in half, and before the last peals of deafening thunder had died down, the shadow of the Prince appeared on the wall at the very top of the tower.
Mortal horror seized the Teutons, and the emboldened Pskovites rushed at the enemy with redoubled force, defeated him completely and drove him far beyond the borders of the Pskov land.
True, many Pskovites died in that terrible battle. All of them were buried with honors on a rocky river ledge, near the walls of a built tower - a dungeon. The people of Pskov remembered their faithful Prince and wanted to find his body in order to bury him. But the tower was empty, only heavy, rusty chains lay like snakes on the stone floor.
Since then, the great glory of the Prince began to be passed down from generation to generation, and has reached the present day. But not everyone knows about it. But every year, on the night of the death of a national hero, a quiet and sad ringing comes from the tower. Many claim to have personally heard it. And that’s why people began to call the tower Gremyachey.

The Enchanted Princess

Since time immemorial, in the secret, hidden deep underground crypt of the Thundering Tower, behind two heavy iron doors there has been a coffin mounted on a pedestal covered with black velvet. In the coffin lies a very young beauty, a prince’s daughter. The beauty was allegedly cursed by her own mother at one time, for what - it is unknown: either she disobeyed her parental order, or for some other reason. Only now she lies motionless in a gilded sarcophagus in the very prime of her girlhood, with open eyes and a bright blush on her cheeks, unable to utter a sound.
The entire space of the ominous and capacious crypt is occupied by barrels of gold, closely approaching the coffin, and the entrance to the tower and the crypt is guarded by evil spirits.
However, there is a means to break the evil spell cast on the princess. To do this, it is necessary to find a good fellow who could recite the psalter over the girl’s headboard for 12 days and nights in a row without rest. The evil spell will then dissipate, the evil spirits will recede and that young man will get the beauty as his wife along with all the gold of the crypt.
Many hot young heads, in an attempt to get rich, tried to fulfill the conditions of the spell, but as soon as they approached the cherished place at night, such a terrible fear crept into the soul that the desire for both gold and beauty disappeared forever - one’s own life is more valuable!
And yet one day such a desperate daredevil appeared. Exactly at midnight he approached the tower. Locks and chains fell with a roar in front of the brave man, and the iron doors opened with a terrible grinding sound, opening the way for the young man to the mysterious tomb. The young man descended the damp, moldy steps, drenched in the sepulchral cold, into the crypt and froze, amazed.
The pleading gaze of the beautiful eyes of the young princess, a beauty lying in a gilded coffin, was fixed directly on him. Pain, despair, hope were mixed in her silent gaze, and the young man, who had become timid, submitted to her, took out the psalter he had stored in advance from his pocket and began to read from it. As soon as the young man began to read, terrible visions began to besiege him from all sides. All the evil spirits that were in the tower seemed to have conspired among themselves in sophisticated attempts to instill horror in the soul of the reader, showing the vileness of their satanic nature. But the young man held on with all his might, tried not to look around so as not to see all this nasty stuff, and read, read, read... He lectured for six days and nights, and when the seventh day began, he could not stand it and dozed off. At that same moment, the jubilant evil spirits, with an angry howl, attacked the young man and threw him out of the tower. Only he managed to notice the mournfully inconsolable look of the beautiful princess.
He was found unconscious early in the morning near the very edge of the cliff. For two days after his unsuccessful campaign, the young man could not utter a word. And having recovered, he did not live long and soon died.
And the beautiful princely daughter remained in a dark dungeon and still lies there, surrounded by gold and evil spirits, in the hope that one day a young man will be found and will be able to free her from the evil spell. It is this ringing of gold coins that some Pskovites sometimes hear at midnight.

The case of the artisan

On the outskirts of the former old city, on Misharina Hill stands the Church of St. John the Evangelist. The church was built a long time ago, no one remembers when, but the patronal feast was regularly celebrated every year. On one of these holidays, a story happened to a certain artisan, which later became the subject of frequent gossip.
Once upon a time there lived a craftsman in Pskov, they forgot his name. So, every year our artisan visited his relatives who lived on Misharina Hill on the day of the Apostle John the Theologian. It was a common thing and, at that time, even somewhat obligatory. This dragged on from year to year, perhaps it would have continued now, but an accident put an end to the artisan’s visit. Here's what it is.
That year was no different from the rest, and the beginning of the holiday did not foretell anything bad. I spent the day with the artisan and, to be honest, drank a little on the occasion of the holiday and a pleasant campaign. But he stood firmly on his feet and did not lose his human appearance - he knew when to stop. Well, since I got drunk, I was late.
It’s good to be a guest, but it’s time to know your honor, you have to go home to the city, but it was already nightfall. Our craftsman is walking slowly, the mood is nowhere better, the weather is even more beautiful: a quiet May night, the nightingales are whistling, and our craftsman is quietly humming some simple song. Suddenly he looks and sees two acquaintances walking towards him; they must also be guests.
- A-ah, fellow countryman! Great! - They happily clapped him on the back.
- You'll be great, fellow countrymen! - answers the artisan.
-Where are you heading?
- Yes, I’m making my way home. I stayed a little.
- You still have time to visit home. “Come on in, brother, and let’s have some more company with us,” the fellow countrymen suggested to the artisan.
“Why not come in, let’s go in,” agrees the artisan, “I just don’t know where.”
“This is our concern,” the fellow countrymen say and take the artisan by the arms.
They go and enter some tavern that happens to be nearby. The craftsman didn’t even know that there was such a thing. They open the door, walk in, and sit down at the table. Wine and appetizers appeared on the table. The wine was poured into glasses. The countrymen themselves drink and treat the artisan:
- Yes, drink brother, don’t be shy.
And you don’t need to ask him for a long time. He took off his cap from his head, put it on the bench, and smoothed his hair. He took the glass with one hand, and with the other, mechanically, out of habit, he crossed himself according to Orthodox custom.
Before the craftsman had time to take his fingers away from his chest, everything disappeared from his eyes at once: the table, the wine, and the fellow countrymen, and he himself found himself - you will never believe it - at the very top of the Gremyachaya Tower. Without a cap and with a gnawed bone in his hands. The poor craftsman's hair stood on end with fear and the hops instantly disappeared, as if he had not drunk at all. It dawned on him that his fellow countrymen turned out to be demonic spawn, taking the form of his acquaintances. Only the sign of the cross saved him from the worst...
They removed the craftsman from the tower only in the morning, when people went to work and saw him at the top.
From that time on, our artisan forever ordered himself to go to visit Misharina Hill on the day of St. John the Evangelist. And if, out of curiosity, someone asks him to tell him about a funny adventure, he frowns angrily and turns the conversation to something else.

KROLINO ANOMALIES
An invisible stalker terrified the residents of a village in the Novorzhevsky district
The village of Krolino, Novorzhevsky district. Warm July night. To the side of the fire where Kolya Mikhailov was sitting, grazing horses snorted peacefully. Horses, although smart animals, if you don’t keep an eye on them, are not averse to visiting fields with oats or eating something else forbidden. Therefore, in Krolino, a turn was established to graze collective farm horses - the main draft force of the distant 50s of the 20th century.

Forget-me-nots on the grave
Ten years have not yet passed since the terrible war time, when a person’s life was worth nothing. On the eastern outskirts of the village, a man was publicly shot and buried there, on whom the Nazis discovered the Order of Lenin. On the approach to Krolino from the village of Shikeni, a woman who had been shot was buried. Forget-me-nots bloomed with blue eyes on her grave mound. This grave was located not far from the place where the boy Kolya, the eldest of the brothers in the Mikhailov family, grazed horses.
The campfire was nice, but need to make sure all the horses were there. The boy walked away from the fire and stood for a while so his eyes could adjust to the darkness. This is true. The horses scattered across the pasture. While walking around them, Nikolai heard someone coming towards him from the darkness. The sound of footsteps, breathing and snoring could be clearly heard.
- Who's there? - Kolya called out.
There was no answer, but the noise continued. No matter how much the shepherd boy peered into the darkness, he could not discern anything, but someone invisible continued to approach him. The boy’s nerves could not stand it, and he ran towards the village.
The nearest house was about two kilometers away. Kolya ran out onto the field road leading to the village, called Starodorozhye. Someone was catching up with him from behind. He literally loomed over the boy. Fear and despair gave Kolya strength, and he rushed to the saving houses, as if flying over mounds, potholes and other irregularities of the grass-overgrown Starodorozh, barely visible in the dark.
The pursuer did not lag behind. It seemed that he was about to grab the person. There was no time to look back, the main thing was not to stumble or fall. Without remembering himself, Kolya ran into the house and shouted that someone was chasing him. The parents woke up: the father, a war invalid, and the mother, tired from field work on the collective farm. By the light of the kerosene lamp, it was clear that the teenager’s bare feet were torn and bleeding.
Nikolai’s mother lit a bat kerosene lantern, took an ax and headed towards the horses, but did not see anything strange. The rest of the night passed without incident.

Fell through the ground
Three years later, the mound with blooming forget-me-nots on the unmarked women's grave was almost leveled to the ground. One day in May, schoolchildren, returning from the village of Shekeni, met two young gypsies. They were very excited.
“Guys,” one of them addressed her friends. - Is there anyone buried nearby?
“Yes, during the war a woman was buried there,” the boys pointed behind the alder bushes. - And what happened?
- Yes, you see, we just met a woman who disappeared before our eyes, as if she had fallen through the ground! Now it’s clear... - the gypsy didn’t finish, and they went their way.
What became clear to them, the schoolchildren did not find out. Childhood is a carefree time. They connected the incident with the gypsies with an unmarked grave near Starodorozhye.
The next morning, when the children were heading to school, their path ran not far from the burial place of a woman who had died a violent death. Suddenly the boys were seized with horror. Several schoolchildren aged 11 and 12 were simply afraid to move along the road, not far from which a woman’s grave had almost been leveled to the ground. For the first time in their lives, the children were solving a problem not from a textbook about water pouring out of pipes, but how they could overcome the real danger posed by a burial site.
Every schoolchild's dream is a good pocket knife. A good one is a knife with two or more blades, an awl, a gimlet, a screwdriver and even scissors. For village schoolchildren of the early 50s, such a knife remained only a dream. But what boy would put up with that? How to cut a branch, plan a stick, make a pipe, etc.? Nikolai had a knife the size of a Finnish knife. There simply was no other - small - knife in their family. So Nikolai carried a kitchen knife for the boy’s needs. Taking it out of his bag with textbooks (it simply did not fit in his pocket), Nikolai showed the knife to his friends and said: “We are armed! Forward!"
Taking the knife in his hand like a dagger, Nikolai boldly stepped forward. The guys are behind him. With all their might, the boys started screaming a song. The ghost did not accept the challenge. The children reached school safely and then returned home.

PRODIGAL PLACES AND MISSING PEOPLE
In the north-west of the Porkhovsky district, near the Udokha River, there is the village of Dubrovno. This settlement has a very ancient history; it was first mentioned in chronicles in 1137. The ruins of an ancient settlement are still preserved there. Near such places all sorts of “strange things” often happen. So, during the war years, two boys and a dog got lost there. We went into the forest to pick mushrooms, fell asleep in the sun under an oak tree, and woke up in a completely different place - in a dense pine forest, from which we emerged only on the second day.

Amazing events happened in these parts several years ago with the famous TV presenter Evgeniy. Together with his friends, he went mushroom hunting in the area of the village of Lyady. Mushroom pickers scattered in all directions. When everyone gathered, and Evgeniy was not there, his comrades were not worried at first, since he was well versed in the area. Only on the tenth day, the missing man was discovered in the bushes by one of the residents of the village of Rudno, on the edge of the Devil’s Ravine. It turned out that after collecting chanterelles, the place turned out to be really mushroom-filled! - the TV presenter suddenly discovered that he could not find his way back. For a long time he wandered around the ravine in circles, but never saw either a road or people from whom he could ask about which direction to go. Gradually Evgeniy lost his sense of time. Day gave way to night, but he did not know how many days he had been walking around the ravine like this, eating raw mushrooms from a basket.

Well, all these events can have a completely realistic explanation. The “fire dog” and scorched stones may be associated with some kind of underground, even volcanic processes, or the “activity” of lightning. As for “prodigal phenomena,” they, in all likelihood, are of a psychological nature.

BIG FOOT
In the Gdovsky district of the Pskov region, residents found the abode of Bigfoot - a kind of primitive wigwam made from roughly broken branches - and nearby they saw numerous footprints. Cryptozoologist, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Yeti specialist Valentin Sapunov is already ready to go to the site. He is confident that the evidence of bigfoot activity is real, since their tracks are very difficult to fake. “Bigfoot has flat feet, his big toe is much larger than the rest, and his heel is pointed. Yeti walk, unlike people, in a trail.” Sapunov says that man has not yet managed to make friends with Bigfoot only because he has supernatural abilities. The Yeti, in his opinion, has the gift of clairvoyance and always knows when a person is approaching him and when to run away. Bigfoot people also have hypnosis skills. The yeti's habitat is quite large. According to the scientist, evidence of the existence of hairy humanoid creatures can be found in the Leningrad region, Siberia, and Canada. In Russia, snow people are most often seen in Kuzbass. So, last month, hunters rescued an unknown animal drowning in a river in the Kemerovo region. The snowman grabbed a dry tree thrown to him, climbed ashore and disappeared into the remote taiga. There, as a result of a two-day expedition led by ethnographer Valery Kimeev, in which local hunters, television crews and members of the Tussan-Kuzbass club also took part, the yeti’s habitat was discovered. “The dwelling is an improvised tent,” said the district’s press service, “14 young trees are tilted so that together they form a dome, and many branches are thrown on top to prevent water from getting inside.” The participants of the hike noted that such a house is unreliable and can only be temporary - to rest and move on. It is worth saying that the Russian Academy of Sciences does not recognize the existence of Bigfoot. The head of the anthropology department of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences Sergei Vasiliev believes that the Earth has been sufficiently studied and there cannot be an unknown population on it.

Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region
NIKITINO - UFO
Nikitino - place of UFO sightings, Pskov region, Russia

In the Pskov region, strange circles were discovered on the ground. Tall emerald grass grows on strange rings.
Local search engines have studied many places in the Ostrovsky district to the last stone. But this was the first time we encountered such a miracle presented by the hills and copses of the Volkovo volost. And they didn’t notice him right away.
“We dug in those places for several weeks,” says the head of the search team, Pyotr Grinchuk. - While spring was early, nothing strange. And as soon as the grass began to grow, we see that empty stripes remained on the ground. The stripes turned out to be two concentric rings, slightly less than 20 meters in diameter. Each strip is 20 centimeters long. It looks like they haven’t been dug up, or covered with anything, or burned - but there is no grass. Half a month later, the islanders returned - fathers, the drawings are overgrown! Only some strange growth - long, juicy, rich emerald green, while in the clearings around there is short light green grass. It is not clear where these circles in Volkovskaya volost came from (search engines found three such signs).
In the space between the circles there is still a bald spot. But this was not the last surprise. “We found two more exactly the same “traces,” says Grinchuk. - They walk along the same line, about three hundred meters between them. What it is - none of us understood. I don't believe in mysticism. Human? Yes, no tractor can go there, there are hills, swamps, and bushes all around. There is not a single road. To Dulovka, the nearest village, 20 kilometers.

PRODIGAL PLACES NEAR PSKOV.
The most fantastic rumors have long been circulating about the forests near Pskov. And some researchers of anomalous phenomena are convinced that the “entrance to hell” is located there. What makes them say this? The fact is that strange, mysterious phenomena occur in the Pskov forests, which some explain as haunting hallucinations, while others explain them as the machinations of “evil spirits” supposedly living here underground. For example, there is a Devil's Glade near Pskov, where you can supposedly meet a huge black dog with fire bursting out of its mouth. Such creatures appear in different parts of the world. Many times people who were in the path of a black dog were burned by fire. They say that some of them even died.
The so-called “prodigal places” deserve special mention. So, in the area of the village of Malakhovo there is the Tsigelna forest, where people often wander. In the neighboring Dubye forest in 1996, pensioner Vera Vladimirovna Kuzko, who was visiting her mother in the village, saw trees broken by an unknown force, a strange circular dent on the ground and some “foreign” stones. One of them lay under a spruce tree, not reaching the forest of Petrakov's Lyadina.

It was split into four parts. Its surface looked “scorched” - iodine-black in color, and in the middle the color was deep pink, with brownish-beetroot inclusions. The insides of the stone seemed strewn with luminous sparkles. The caps of large fly agarics growing nearby “glowed” in the same way. And above the forest, at a height of 4-5 m, hung a “black, very black hole”, torn at the edges. The woman also thought that some creatures were coming out of the hole... By the way, on the old road to Voteselovo, on the edge of the burnt forest, there lies another strange stone-boulder. Maybe we are talking about meteorites?

In the north-west of the Porkhovsky district, near the Udokha River, there is the village of Dubrovno. This settlement has a very ancient history; it was first mentioned in chronicles in 1137. The ruins of an ancient settlement are still preserved there. Near such places all sorts of “strange things” often happen. So, during the war years, two boys and a dog got lost there. We went into the forest to pick mushrooms, fell asleep in the sun under an oak tree, and woke up in a completely different place - in a dense pine forest, from which we emerged only on the second day.

Another famous “hellish place” in the Pskov region is “Devil’s Ravine” in the Plyussky district, near the village of Lyady. The ravine is overgrown with ferns, and the path there is blocked by fallen trees. Another stream makes its way. This place has had a bad reputation since ancient times.

Before the revolution, several peasants disappeared in the vicinity of the ravine. In 1928, an entire team of seven lumberjacks disappeared here without a trace. And in 1931, the families of nine local kulaks disappeared who knows where. Some said that they were evicted to Kolyma, and some said that they were “taken away” by the Devil’s Ravine. It is impossible to test this hypothesis.

In 1974, a company of mushroom pickers from Leningrad disappeared in the Devil's Ravine. Two of them left the forest a week later. But they were in a deranged state and could not really say anything about where their five comrades had gone.

Only on the tenth day was the missing man discovered in the bushes by one of the residents of the village of Rudno, on the edge of the Devil’s Ravine.

Then he started hallucinating. One day I heard a timber truck rumble behind the hill. Evgeny moved towards the sound - in vain, he only ran into dense thickets, and the noise died down. Finally, the strength left the unlucky mushroom picker and he curled up and lay down on a pillow of moss. This is where salvation arrived...

The forest clearing looked very peaceful - the grass was not trampled, the flowers were not picked. Nothing foreshadowed a terrible meeting. Suddenly, something black and shaggy either jumped out from behind the bushes or rolled out and rushed towards the mushroom pickers. Sometimes sparks flashed above the shaggy creature and even flames appeared. Most of all, it resembled a huge black dog, as if it had stepped out of the pages of Arthur Conan Doyle’s story “The Hound of the Baskervilles.” Mushroom pickers, horrified by such a spectacle, scattered. This terrible encounter took place not in a science-fiction horror film, but in the forests of the Pskov region. Residents of the surrounding villages call the place where such meetings quite often take place the Devil's Glade. The village old-timers will certainly tell every visitor about a huge black dog breathing fire. And they will strictly prohibit appearing in the Devil’s Glade or in the aspen forest surrounding it, since the terrible dog, escaping from the underworld to scare the Orthodox, cannot stray far from the meadow.

Not only local residents and random tourists encountered the terrible mystical “black monster”. Scientists became interested in them quite quickly. The first of them was Moscow electrical engineer Sergei Martyanov. Having arrived in the Pskov region with his friend in the summer, he accidentally ended up near Chertovaya Polyana. Suddenly, a large black ball rolled out from the thick bushes towards him, with fiery flashes running across its surface. The mysterious object, sparkling and hissing, rolled across the surface of a huge puddle of rainwater. A thick cloud of steam rose into the air, a loud bang was heard, and the ball instantly disappeared. All that was left on the ground was withered grass.

The scientist became interested in the unusual phenomenon and was able to organize several expeditions to the Pskov region in order to study the phenomenon he saw with the help of instruments. The first meeting did not happen at all as Sergei Martyanov imagined. Researchers placed instrument sensors around Devil's Glade. The appearance of a black “monster” from a possible cave dungeon was expected for a whole week. And finally, the moment has come. The instrument needles shook and moved sharply to the right. A few more minutes passed and a crimson flame flared up in the middle of the clearing, which soon went out. And then “something dark gray” appeared straight from the ground. “Dark ball lightning” behaved like a living and even intelligent, albeit malicious creature.

Anomalous zones and mysterious places in the Pskov region

She walked around the entire clearing in a circle, burning out sensors there one by one. All that was left of the expensive video camera was a tripod and fused glass pieces of the lens. Having completed the targeted destruction of the devices, “something dark gray” returned to the center of the clearing and went into its underground habitat, slowly being absorbed into the ground, like an ink drop into blotting paper. The expeditions carried out by Sergei Martyanov made it possible not only to prove the reality of the phenomenon, repeatedly described by local residents, however, very rarely observed by scientists, but also to objectively record the properties of “black lightning”. The monster of the underground depths freely penetrated through trees and stones. Its dark color was explained by the many small particles of earth and dust that this object attracted to itself. His temperature was so high that it was impossible to measure it with instruments. On his way, the guest from the underworld destroyed everything that could burn, and on the ground he left behind a trail of charred grass. Not only in the Pskov forests are there black dogs scattering fiery sparks in all directions.

UFO OVER PSKOV
Over the past two years alone, five Pskov residents have witnessed the appearance of unidentified flying objects in the region, the Kurier weekly reports. In reality, the newspaper assures, citing local ufologists, the number of such cases in the Pskov region is greatly underestimated.

“We think there are a lot more episodes. It’s just that people, for obvious reasons, are in no hurry to report them, and, in fact, to whom? To the police? The neighbors will also laugh,” explained Sergei Blokhin, a Pskov resident and member of the Mir organization for the study of anomalous phenomena.

According to eyewitnesses, a UFO flew over Pskov, for example, around 2 a.m. on September 20, 2009.

“My friend and I were walking near the Church of the Assumption from Paromenya, on Olginskaya embankment. A red object appeared from the southeast and was moving north. Moreover, it moved silently. Several times it changed direction, which clearly did not correspond to the behavior of a meteorite, satellite or any probe. The size of the object was much smaller than the visible disk of the Moon, but larger (about three times) than Jupiter,” said Mikhail.

Two weeks later, on October 3, a mysterious triangular-shaped object in the sky over Pskov was observed by Alexander Pavlov.

“The UFO slowly, at a speed less than that of an airplane, flew over the Pedagogical University towards the Central Market. The UFO emitted three white, blue-tinged light beams directly from the corners of the “triangle”, inside which lights were also burning. Alexander even heard a quiet sound similar to the hum of power transformers,” the newspaper writes and cites other evidence of encounters between residents of the Pskov region and UFOs.

For example, a bright red ball hovered over pensioner Elena Khrenova from the village of Bystretsovo at one in the morning. It even seemed to her that “a face was looking at her from the ball.” And in Neelovo, Alexander Nishanov and his two daughters saw a “cigarette” at a height of 50 meters from the ground: a long brown object with holes similar to portholes.

“Alexander, coming closer to the place over which the object hung, noticed that the rye was strongly crushed, just in the shape of a UFO. There was a smell of burnt electrical wiring,” Kurier reports details.

In the article about UFOs, the publication also refers to Krestovsky pilots from the military transport regiment and residents of the village of Iskra, Dnovsky district, who, however, talk about “cigars” in the sky “very reluctantly, as if they were still afraid of something.”

MYSTERIOUS BOULDER
Altar of Hyperborea or an ordinary boulder?
Local historians say that in the forest on the outskirts of Roshchino there is a real sanctuary of ancient pagans. Two boulders in the form of a chair and the third - a sacrificial stone.

All together - a mysterious complex, the purpose of which remains to be determined. If the assumptions are confirmed, the history of Roshchino will have to be seriously revised, according to the discoverers of the stone throne. However, ancient chronicles and topography confirm that this is the right place for such an altar.

The sanctuary is oriented strictly to the cardinal points, the stones stand on the top of a high hill, not far from the river, along which an important trade route passed in ancient times. The waterway was also used by the Vikings. They, most likely, left behind the mysterious stones, local historians are sure.

However, scientists do not yet share the confidence of enthusiasts. The stones were badly damaged during the war. To prove that this is a sanctuary, serious research is needed.

The author of the find is local historian Stanislav Druzyak.
Stanislav himself believes that this is the legendary “Throne of Odin,” an altar of ancient pagans that became widespread in the North. They are often associated with the mystical Hyperborea - a proto-civilization that supposedly existed in the north-west of Eurasia in ancient times, and then disappeared, like Atlantis.

Mysterious temples - trace stones, cup stones, seids and labyrinths have been found on the Karelian Isthmus before, but there have never been anything like this one, says the researcher. The complex stands in the middle of a forest on top of a high round hill. The throne itself is two large boulders placed at right angles to each other. The “back” is clearly visible, but the “seat” went deep into the ground - to find the boulder, Stanislav had to rake out the moss and Christmas tree needles. And then it turned out: the throne is oriented strictly to the east.

In the ancient view, the east is life, the west is death. That is why behind the throne itself, strictly to the west of it, there is a second stone - squat and flat. This is an altar, Stanislav is sure. Once upon a time, it was on this stone that people and animals were killed in order to appease the harsh northern gods.

Of course, at first glance the stones look like ordinary forest boulders. 99 out of 100 will pass by without paying any attention to them. But Stanislav Druzyak was the 100th who noticed: strangely, nothing grows on the temple except moss - there are thickets of blueberries and lingonberries all around, and around the stones there is bare ground strewn with pine needles.

I began to look more closely and applied a compass. I was finally convinced that these were sacred stones when I cleaned off the moss and discovered mysterious runes on the altar - they were carved directly into the granite surface. And on the back of the throne there were traces of a solar symbol - a half-erased circle. In addition, the throne is dotted with lines that are unlikely to be of natural origin, the local historian is sure. Unfortunately, the throne was badly damaged during the war: two shells flew straight into the ancient stones, as evidenced by deep cracks in the granite and fragments scattered around in a fair amount. Here, right next to the throne, we found two spent Soviet cartridges - apparently, the shooter used the throne as cover.

TRUVOROVO CITY
Truvorovo settlement Anomalous zones and mysterious places of the Pskov region

The Izborsk or Truvorovo settlement is located on a high cape with rather steep slopes at the confluence of a now nameless stream into Lake Gorodishchenskoye, connected by a water system to Lake Pskov, and through it to the Baltic. The site of the fort has a subtriangular outline measuring about 1 hectare and, in the form that has come down to us, is protected from the floor side by a rampart up to 6 m high and a ditch about 3 m deep. The fort rises above the lake by 44-45 m.

The first settlement on the Truvorov settlement arose no later than the turn of the 7th-8th centuries. From the moment of its foundation, it had a pronounced craft and trade character, and the composition of the population was distinguished by ethnic diversity. Izborsk of this period was a proto-city, which was the tribal center of one of the groups of Krivichi Slavs; its area was about 6,000 square meters. m. The settlement was fortified with two ramparts - an arched one, made of very dense clay and stone, on the floor side, and a small one at the cape. In the middle part of the settlement there was a square, round in plan, with a diameter of about 25 meters. It was intended for tribal meetings (veche), cult, pagan festivals and fortune telling. Residential buildings were located in a crowded and haphazard manner, which is very typical for Slavic settlements of the second half of the 1st millennium AD. e.

In the first half of the 10th century, after a severe fire in Izborsk, large construction work was carried out, which significantly changed the appearance and topography of the settlement. Its territory increased to 1 hectare and was divided into two parts. The cape part with the veche square was occupied by Detinets, which was surrounded by a paved defensive wall along the perimeter. There is every reason to believe that representatives of the princely-tribal elite and the druzhina class were located in the village of Izborsk.

A roundabout town was closely adjacent to the village, protected on the southern side by a stone wall. In the houses of the roundabout city lived mainly artisans - bronze casters and jewelers, bone carvers and stone workers, carpenters and joiners and, probably, blacksmiths.

Thus, by the middle of the 10th century, Izborsk from a tribal settlement, proto-city and center of the Pskov Krivichi turned into an early medieval city with a two-part socio-topographic structure - a princely-druzhina settlement and a craft settlement.

By the end of the 11th century, Izborsk turned into a border fortress city, becoming an outpost on the western borders of the Novgorod-Pskov land. The two-part structure of the city becomes unnecessary, the detinets are liquidated and powerful stone fortress walls are built along the perimeter of the entire settlement. A powerful stone tower was built on the cape of the Izborsk settlement. It formed a single complex with the fortress wall, and they were built simultaneously. In plan, the tower had the shape of a hexagon, each side of which was 6 m, and the diameter of the tower was 10 m. Next to the tower, a hidden hole was built in the wall of the fortress, which made it possible for the defenders to organize unexpected attacks during the siege.

In the 13th century, the Livonian Order, which formed in the South-Eastern Baltic, repeatedly tried to expand its possessions at the expense of the lands of North-Western Rus'. Izborsk was the first to stand in the way of the conquering knights. In 1232, Izborsk was captured by the Swordsmen in a surprise attack, but was soon recaptured by the Pskovites. In 1240, after a major battle, it found itself in the hands of German feudal lords, and in 1242, after the famous Battle of the Ice, it again became one of the Russian cities. In 1262 and 1289, the Livonians again crossed the western border of Rus', and again the fortress city of Izborsk stood in their way. The Livonian raids on the Pskov land accelerated the process of building more powerful stone fortifications in the border cities. The Izborsk fortress, built in the 11th century, no longer met the defense conditions of that time, and in 1330 the Izborsk fortress was moved to a new location, on Zheravya Mountain, 0.4 km south of the previous one.

Truvorov cross

Before the entrance to Gorodishche there is a large stone cross called Truvorov.

The height of its ground part is 2.36 m, the distance between the edges of the horizontal ends is 1.42 m, the thickness is 0.21 m. It was carved from a limestone slab. The shape of the cross is peculiar: the two side and upper ends slightly widen from the center to the edges, and the lower part does not have any expansion, its sides are almost parallel. The inscription on the cross - "CHR SLA IS KH NIKA" (i.e. King of Glory Jesus Christ Nika) - is traditional for stone crosses of the Russian North-West. In the center of the cross there is an eight-pointed cross carved at the base.

The size of the cross may have given rise to the legend that it was installed on the grave of Truvor, who came to reign in Rus' in 862 with the brothers Rurik and Sineus. According to the chronicle, Truvor reigned in Izborsk for two years and died in 864.

Based on its paleographic features and its shape, the cross dates back to the 14th - 15th centuries. It is quite obvious that the cross has nothing to do with Truvor, it is a memorial cross erected by the Izborians at the entrance to the old, abandoned settlement, a reminder of the original location of the ancient city.

Next to the Truvor Cross there are slabs with scratched geometric shapes. Of greatest interest is a regular square with two smaller ones inscribed in it. The sides of the square are connected by dashes. Perhaps this slab served as the original board for the game “mill”, very common in the Middle Ages. On another Izborsk slab a figure in the form of a ladder and a small triangle are carved. The meaning of these drawings has not yet been determined.

Babylons
Next to the Truvor Cross there are slabs with geometric figures carved on them, among which is a regular square with two smaller squares inscribed in it, connected to each other.

The name “Babylon” goes back to the biblical legend about an attempt to build a tower “to the sky” in the city of Babylon. The main temple of ancient Babylon was indeed a stepped pyramid; in plan it consisted of squares inscribed into each other.

According to one version, babylons are signs that architects used when marking buildings. Another version suggests that this slab could serve as a board for the game “mill”, which was very common in the Middle Ages.

On another slab a figure in the form of a ladder and a small triangle are carved.

Almost every district of the Pskov region has its own anomalous zones - real mysteries for scientists. Spiritual Mountain, Devil's Ravine, the “prodigal forest”, where a woman’s cry is heard, and chronomirages in an ancient monastery - especially for lovers of mysticism, we have compiled a map of the main mysteries of the region.

Dukhova Mountain

Getting to it is quite simple: from Pskov to the regional center Opochka - 135 km, then the highway to Krasnogorodsk is another 7 km, and a little to the side - to the village of Kirovo, and there everyone will show you where the attraction is located.

Personally, I studied five anomalous zones, although it can be assumed that there are actually many more.
