Delicious tom yum in Pattaya. How to relax in Pattaya

Outside of Thailand, we missed the spicy Thai soup Tom Yum so much! Every time we saw Vietnamese Pho soup, we remembered Tom Yam. Returning to Pattaya, in the very first days we went to eat this wonderful soup. Jomtien has a huge selection of tourist restaurants, where Tom Yam is sold on average from 100 baht and above.

But not everywhere Tom Yum will be truly tasty. The Thais themselves admit that Tom Yam can only be eaten in trusted places.

Not every cafe has Tom Yum soup the way it should be. Spicy, spicy, fresh and delicious

Where to eat the most delicious tom yum in Pattaya

✔ Food court on the ground floor at Central Festival

Now we eat the best tom yum in Pattaya at the Central Festival in the food court for locals. Although, there are always more tourists here than Thais. Tom Yam soup with shrimp costs 135 baht. Tom yum with chicken 100 baht. Inexpensive. At the same time, tom yam probably tastes the best.

There are cash registers at the entrance to the food court. You give them 300-500 baht, they give you a card with which you pay for the food. Then you take the remaining money on the card at the cashier.

For 300 baht you can easily dine here for two. All dishes are 50-80-100 baht. For two of us, 2 volumes of yam, 2 rice and a bottle of water cost 295 baht ($9).

Delicious tom yam kung is prepared in the corner cafe, near the fruit shake stand (opposite Dunkin donuts). This is what their kitchen looks like:

This is what the tables in the food court look like:

And here is the most delicious tom yum. We don’t even say “no spicy”, it’s always made not spicy.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience In this article.

Other places we've gone to before

We do not guarantee that it is still relevant. For now, I’ll leave these 2 points in the article for history, in case they work again:

Food court at Harbor Mall

Until 2017, there was excellent tom yam here. Now, it seems, this compartment with soups has closed.

The shopping center is located in central Pattaya on Central Pattaya Road, near the Sukhumvit highway. There is a food court on the 5th floor. The shopping center is new, few people know about it, so there are always few people in this food court, it is very clean and modern. There are practically no tourists here.

Best Volume or ask in a cafe that has a logo in the shape of a house. Title in Thai. Located approximately in the middle of the food court. Roast ducks hang next to them in a nearby cafe. Tom yum costs 70 baht with chicken and 80 with shrimp. The best tom yum in Pattaya is here!

Harbor shopping center on the map

You can get there from the center by tuk-tuk for 10 baht, which runs along this street.

Non-touristy cafe near Park Lane condo

This cafe is located near the Park Lane and condominiums. As of the summer of 2016, they are still working, however, we did not go there this year, so I cannot say 100% that the tom yum there is still the best.

Here you can eat Tom Yam in Pattaya, tasty and inexpensive

The inside is modest and clean

The prices are good. It's nice that food prices in Pattaya do not change depending on the season

The cafe is small, everything is new and clean. The prices on the menu are more than reasonable. At beach eateries on Jomtien, eating Tom Yum will cost at least 2 times more. In this establishment you can try real Thai Tom Yam soup at a non-tourist price. The cost of Tom Yam with shrimp or chicken is 60 baht per serving of soup + 10 baht per plate of rice. You can bring your own drinks, including alcoholic ones. For 140 baht, the two of us ate to our fullest.

How great it is to eat this rich broth when everything in your mouth is on fire. Well, my mouth is already watering! By the way, the waitress always asks us whether we should make it spicy or not. We love spicy things, we usually say “midium spicy”. If you can't stand spicy food, it's better to say "no spice."

Everything about the city of Pattaya for tourists - the main advantages, disadvantages. Who is this resort suitable for and what time of year should you go there? Entertainment, attractions, prices, beaches, money, transport - and much more! Comprehensive information for tourists - the nuances and subtleties of relaxation.

Pattaya - small but very popular resort town Thailand, located on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. It is located in the southeast of the country, near the capital of the kingdom - Bangkok. They are separated by only 160 km. It has an immodest role - it is recognized as a city of sins, entertainment and debauchery. By the way, unbridled fun will be much cheaper than at other resorts in Thailand.

The city's territory is small - only 22 km². According to official data, about 120,000 people permanently live there. In fact, the population is approaching 500,000 people. Pattaya is divided into districts: Naklua, Central (Wongamat), North (Naklua), South (Pratumnak) Pattaya and Jomtien.

For residents of large Russian cities, Pattaya may seem like a small village with modest, unimproved areas. In comparison: the area, for example, of Saratov: 394 km². It is worth considering that this is far from the largest village in Russia.

“The main thing is not size, but convenience and comfort,” you say. And rightly so. Despite the fact that the city is located in the industrial section of the east coast of Thailand, the main source of income is tourism. But even with this there are small problems. Read about everything below!

Who is the Pattaya resort suitable for - advantages and disadvantages

  • Undoubtedly, you should start getting acquainted with the land of smiles from Pattaya, because:
  • This is where you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the country as much as possible;
  • Join the flavor of Asia with all its disadvantages and advantages;
  • Go on many sightseeing, popular excursions;
  • It’s great to “break away”, changing the atmosphere of working, boring days.

Among the advantages can be noted:

  • Comparatively cheap accommodation, food, entertainment;
  • Direct flights (charter flights), proximity to the airport in Bangkok (scheduled flights);
  • Huge selection of entertainment venues for adults;
  • There are a large number of islands around, and they have good transport accessibility.

Everyone has their own shortcomings. The most obvious ones, no matter how funny it may sound, stem from the advantages:

  • Constant noise and commotion on the streets. Especially relevant in the center;
  • Pollution of the sea, pedestrian roads on the streets;
  • Relatively low quality of service;
  • Large crowds, queues for popular shows/entertainment.

This is most noticeable during the “peak” season. To summarize, Pattaya is suitable for:

  • Active recreation without children;
  • Young people who want to have fun day and night;
  • Lonely young people;
  • Those for whom a beach holiday is not in the first place.

When is the best time to vacation in Pattaya – climate, weather

As such, no one will ever give you accurate forecasts. In general, in Thailand it is summer all year round. In Pattaya, this statement is most relevant, because the hot tropical climate is most stable in this part of the country. The monsoon season, which is most noticeable from November to May, is usually less vibrant than in other resorts in the country. Objectively, taking into account the possible variations of recreation and a lot of entertainment in Pattaya, you can fly to this place at any time of the year.

However, there is a conditional “peak season”, which falls on winter months. At this time, there is less rain in Pattaya, and clouds in the sky are rare guests. You should know that in the “high season” prices skyrocket several times.

When is the best time to go to Pattaya? If you are looking for adventure, relaxing in bars, clubs, massage and erotic salons, the “reasonable” time for relaxation is summer, spring. As mentioned earlier, during the generally accepted “off-season”, prices drop significantly.

If you plan to visit the surrounding area, travel to the islands, or depart from this location on long excursion programs, for example, to the Similan Islands, it is optimal to go in the winter months.

Book trips, accommodation and excursions in advance. Before the New Year holidays, all offers are selling like hot cakes.

What is the sea like in Pattaya - beach holiday

Geographically, Pattaya is located on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand, which, in turn, flows into the South China Sea, then into the Pacific Ocean.

The beach area does not imply a calm, family vacation. In addition, the water in this area is quite dirty - household and “natural” garbage. The situation is aggravated by a large concentration of boats, boats, and large barges.

To say that there is no sea in Pattaya is not fair. But you will hardly find famous beaches “like in the picture”. The exception is locations that are located outside the resort, which cannot be reached by the usual Thai route taxis - tuk-tuks.

Also, the solution is a trip to neighboring islands. Fortunately, there are many of them. And yet, when choosing Pattaya with the implication of a relaxation holiday, or a vacation involving a calm, beach holiday, pay attention to hotels with good, large swimming pools.

Excursions, entertainment

Definitely, Pattaya is considered one of the most popular resorts in Thailand. Thousands of tourists come here every day. Where there is great demand, there will be supply.

One of the most fun activities is elephant riding

The excursion menu is simply “bursting with offers.” It is because of this fact that many tourists choose this location. Why is that? It's simple! The geographical location of Pattaya is the most favorable in relation to excursion sites. In addition, Pattaya became the first city to “grow up” to receive guests. The palm led to the opening of many travel agencies, and as a result, the organization of many programs.

The English language is not held in high esteem by the Thais. It is quite difficult to find a person who speaks this language fluently. Don't you own it either? Refer to sign language.

Everything is clear with the excursions, you definitely won’t have any problems. Exactly the same as with the choice of entertainment venue for a night out.

All over the world, Pattaya is recognized as one of the most vibrant locations for nightlife, including intimate ones. As they say, for every taste and color - whoever is looking for what. Extravagant shows “Alcazar” and “Tiffany” are suitable for married couples. For youth groups there are numerous clubs scattered throughout the city. For single guys looking for sex adventures, there are many customer-oriented bars with far from modest girls.

Attractions

As such, you will not find attractions with a celebrity level a la the Eiffel and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There are no large-scale cultural and historical sites within the city. Interesting locations that can be classified as attractions include Big Buddha, the Temple of Truth, the floating market and Mini Siam.

Correctly pronounced with emphasis on the last vowel - Pattaya.

In addition to Pattaya attractions, you can “capture” the main tourist sites of Bangkok. Fortunately, the city is only two hours away.

Food, cafes, restaurants

There are many cafes with different cuisines, price ranges and levels of service. Lots of street food establishments, Thai fast foods and merchants wandering along the beach. You definitely won't have any problems choosing a place for an evening meal.

Please note that the vast majority of hotels in Thailand operate on a BB system - breakfast only.

Prices in Pattaya, money, ATMs

In Pattaya, as throughout Thailand, the Thai baht (THB) is used. Upon arrival, it is advisable to exchange money for local currency. Payment in dollars/rubles can only be made at street souvenir shops. Official establishments, local supermarkets and tour agencies will send you to the exchange office.

There is an opinion that prices in Pattaya are cheap. No matter how it is. In addition to the jump in the exchange rate, which is not in our favor, holidays in this city are becoming more expensive every year. Of course, in comparison with other resorts in Thailand, Pattaya is recognized as one of the cheapest locations.

As for automated teller machines (ATM), there will be no problems with them either. On every street there are points for issuing funds and various exchange points.

Before leaving, notify your bank that you are heading to Thailand. Without doing this, the bank's security service may block the card for “suspicious transactions” in an unnatural place for you.

Shopping, markets

Shopping in Pattaya is multifaceted. This word maximally reflects the essence of the local “buy and sell”. There is room for any merchant here. Starting with presentable shopping centers middle and business class - offering clothes, equipment and products at fixed prices, ending with night markets - selling their goods for pennies.

Pattaya markets have very cheap clothes. For example, shorts can be bought for 150 baht, a swimsuit for 100 baht, slippers for 150 baht.

For tourists who want to do some serious shopping, we remind you that when leaving Thailand you can return the VAT (7%) paid upon purchase.

Transport

The most popular and cheapest way to get around is the tuk-tuk, a Thai minibus. Initially, such transport does not inspire confidence - questionable, unapproved routes, low driving safety. In fact, there is no alternative option. There is no other public transport in Pattaya. For example, the usual ones for us - a regular bus, tram or trolleybus.

A tuk-tuk ride costs 10 baht. The price doubles for travel to remote areas.

However, there is a more widely used transportation option - a motorbike. Daily rent will cost 200-300 baht. This method of transportation is relevant for those who know how to drive and are not afraid of chaotic, dense traffic.

Of course, as in all cities of the world, in Pattaya you can take a taxi on the street or order it through an application, for example, Uber.

Mobile communications, internet

In Pattaya, as in the whole of Thailand, there are three cellular operators. Depending on the choice of tariff, calls within the network will cost 1-3 baht, while calls abroad will cost from 10 baht. Tariffs that include mobile Internet cost around 25 baht/day.

You can purchase SIM cards at any sales office of the selected operator, or at 7-eleven supermarkets. To choose the optimal tariff “for yourself”, consult with the seller. Depending on your goals (calls abroad/within the network/mobile Internet), he will select the most advantageous prepaid tariff option for you. !

Please keep in mind that SIM card registration is not possible without a passport.

Wi-fi is available in almost every cafe, restaurant, and hotel. As a rule, the data transfer speed is sufficient for communicating via instant messengers, loading websites, and searching for the necessary information.

Basic moments

In terms of entertainment and sex tourism, Pattaya is considered one of the world leaders. Go-go, exotic clubs, transvestite shows, dance floors, bars and noisy discos are on every corner. For those who want to always be in the thick of fun, Pattaya is an absolute paradise. In addition, lovers of sea fishing, diving and paragliding come to this Thai resort.

It would seem that Pattaya, with its active entertainment for adults, should not combine well with the interests of children's recreation. However, the city has many attractions for children: Mini Siam, water parks, zoos, a dolphinarium, the Underwater World aquarium, a sheep farm, pony rides and interesting museums. And Bangkok’s entertainment is just a stone’s throw away, which is why families with children also like to come to Pattaya on vacation.

Story

“Once upon a time in the south of Thailand, in a paradise, there was a wonderful little fishing village...” - this is how a story about Pattaya could begin. But you can start it in another way: those who came to Pattaya to get to know Thailand made a bad choice. This city is a total contradiction.

Pattaya was “discovered” by the Americans, whose base military aviation Utaphau was located several kilometers south of the city. From here in the 1960s. B-52 bombers took off to drop their deadly payload on South Vietnam. Pattaya was for the Americans a place of soldier's rest in its traditional forms. The war was long over, but soldiers continued to visit Pattaya, and when an aircraft carrier berthed in the spacious bay, accompanied by a dozen more gray auxiliary ships, rejoicing began on the Beach Road embankment. “Welcome US Navy” was written on the banners. And indeed: American military personnel with tight wallets were welcome guests here. Europeans followed the Americans - tourism in Pattaya was gaining momentum: multi-storey hotels and restaurants sprang up like mushrooms after rain, offering cuisine from all countries in the world. The city's dubious reputation has been created by countless bars with half-naked girls, expensive Singha beer and a corresponding clientele. As a result, Pattaya became a Mecca for people of dubious reputation who found favorable conditions for dirty dealings or vicious entertainment. However, some of them fell into the hands of the Thai police and were immediately deported to their homeland.

But at all times there were plenty of decent and even truly outstanding people. At least three such names, inextricably linked with the history of Pattaya, must certainly be mentioned. One of them was Dutch long-distance traveler Dolf Rix, owner of a restaurant in Pattaya that served the best Indonesian rice dishes to be found west of Sumatra. Regulars gathered at his place every evening not only for an amazing meal, but also in order to freely complain about the growing tourist bustle from year to year.

A native of Switzerland, Alois Fassbind, who traveled for many years across all continents, also one day stopped in Pattaya and became the general director of the Royal Cliff Hotel. Under his leadership, the hotel for some time turned into the best resort hotel South-East Asia. And since a certain distance from the city, reminiscent of a continuous red-light district, did not harm its reputation, Fassbind proudly indicated the location of his hotel in advertising brochures as “near Pattaya.”

The third should be called Father Brennan, the founder of the local orphanage. It was here that the unwanted “results” of holiday romances most often ended up - and the Irish Redemptorist took diligent care of them.

Almost until the end of the 1980s. the tourism industry profited from the negative image of Pattaya. But later the attitude changed: there was a desire to turn the “old whore,” as this city was called, not without tenderness, into a respectable vacation spot. War on prostitution was officially declared, and the most vile dens were closed by the police. However, Pattaya remained a dubious place. Gossips they say, however, that it is no different from any Mediterranean resort, only it is located at 12°55" north latitude and 100°52" east longitude...

Today Pattaya is experiencing serious problems associated with the uncontrolled growth of visitors in previous decades. A massive government program has helped clean up the city's dubious reputation. Since powerful sewage treatment plants were put into operation in 1992, the quality of sea water has improved significantly. The city's water supply, especially during periods of drought, remains precarious.

How Pattaya differs from other resorts in Thailand

Question: which resort should I choose for my vacation? - arises in everyone who is going on a trip to the “kingdom of smiles” for the first time. Even old-timers who like to come to these sunny regions year after year do not have a clear opinion on this matter. Assessing the advantages and disadvantages of Pattaya's resort opportunities is not an easy task. After all, what is a plus for some can become an obvious minus for others.

Pattaya is a mainland resort. Holidays in this city are considered cheaper than in Phuket and other island resorts. Pattaya has lower costs for transport rental, food, excursion services, spa and massage. Beach chairs and street food are cheaper here. When comparing housing prices, Pattaya also wins. Prices for public transport in Pattaya are also low, and tourists prefer not to walk, but use transport even over short distances.

In terms of weather conditions, Pattaya definitely wins. The advantageous location on the shore of a closed sea bay makes the climate in the continental resort more predictable and stable. There is less rainfall and cloudy days here than on the islands, and large storms are very rare. In addition, unlike Phuket, there is no threat of a tsunami here, since the depth of the Gulf of Thailand is shallow.

In terms of air pollution, Pattaya loses. There are a lot of people living in this city, and traffic is heavy. The beaches in Pattaya are not very clean, and the quality of sea water leaves much to be desired - too large a metropolis has formed around the resort area. However, tourists and residents of the Thai resort found a way out. Just half an hour by sea ferry, you can enjoy the clean and tidy beaches of Koh Larn. In addition, there is always the opportunity to sail on rented boats to other, smaller islands located nearby.

There are diving centers in Pattaya that offer equipment rentals and training programs for scuba diving enthusiasts of various qualifications. For diving they usually go to nearby islands. There is a surf center in Jomtien. However, the conditions of the Gulf of Thailand are noticeably inferior in these types of outdoor activities to the Andaman Sea in Phuket, where undersea world much more varied, and the winds are stronger.

When it comes to shopping, Pattaya has a number of advantages. Large shopping centers are concentrated locally here, and this is convenient. But the main advantage is the very location of the continental resort - its proximity to Bangkok. For guests of Pattaya, traveling to the Thai capital is not difficult at all. And the shopping opportunities in Bangkok are difficult to compare with anything else.

When is the best time to go to Pattaya?

High tourist season in Pattaya starts in mid-November and ends by the end of March. The main reason for this increased activity of travelers is the beautiful weather. In winter, the kingdom is sunny and dry. average temperature air +28ºС. But in the daytime the thermometer rises significantly higher - up to +32...+33ºС. At night in Pattaya it is cooler - usually around +25ºС. But there are days when the temperature drops even lower - to +20ºС. Such a significant difference between day and night temperatures is very comfortable for the well-being of travelers who come on vacation from temperate latitudes and are still unfamiliar with the subequatorial climate. The sea water temperature is +27...+28ºС, and in the coastal part, in shallow water and on the surface, the water can heat up even more.

There is practically no rain in Pattaya. There are rarely one or two days with short-term precipitation in a whole month. And the total amount of precipitation is small - about 20 mm. There are no strong winds in winter; only fresh sea breezes are possible in the evenings or early mornings. There is a lot of sun. There are almost no clouds, and therefore, despite the winter, the daylight hours are long - about 12 hours.

In March, the high tourist season in Pattaya begins to decline. And the main reason for this is the change in weather. Last month spring at the resort becomes a transition to the hot season, which will soon begin in the “kingdom of smiles”. At this time of year, there are fewer travelers in Pattaya, and prices for hotels and tourism services fall.

It gets hotter: during the day – up to +34...+36ºС, and at night – up to +27ºС. Sea water warms up to +29ºС. Sea disturbances are still minor as there are no strong winds. The average wind force per month is only 4 m/s, and the sea is usually stormy only during a thunderstorm. The amount of precipitation increases and air humidity rises.

April is considered the hottest month of the year, and the feeling of heat is further enhanced by the almost complete calm. Quantity rainy days this month is comparable to March (4-5) - the monsoon period is still ahead.

There is a lot of rainfall in Pattaya in May. This is the so-called first monsoon maximum. The second occurs at the beginning of autumn - September and October. In addition, May, like April, is a hot month. Combination high temperatures and humidity is not well tolerated by everyone, so May at the resort is rightfully considered the month of the low tourist season. However, in the second half of May the winds in Pattaya become stronger, and it becomes much easier to bear the heat.

By June, the peak of the hot season passes, and the secret resort becomes a little cooler than in May. For summer months characterized by heavy, short-term downpours, after which the soil and vegetation quickly dry out. Before thunderstorms, gusty winds arise and the sea becomes rough. The monsoons coming from the ocean are intensified by coastal winds, so June is considered the windiest month of the year. The number of completely clear days is reduced to 9-10, and many clouds appear in the sky. Several days a month are completely cloudy, and most are partly cloudy. However, the sun is enough for a good tan. Similar weather lasts in Pattaya until the end of summer. And only at the very end of August the monsoons slowly begin to gain strength.

In September, throughout Thailand, and Pattaya is no exception, the peak of the monsoon season begins. Real, abundant tropical rains come to the kingdom. The weather forecast for this month guarantees stormy weather and high humidity, so in the first two months of autumn it is hardly worth planning a visit to Pattaya for beach holiday and sea walks. However, this time of year is perfect for bus travel around the resort and surrounding area, shopping and exploring the unique Thai cuisine. September is considered the rainiest month of the year. Even Thais, accustomed to these vagaries of weather, try not to forget their umbrellas when leaving home in early autumn.

With November, the tropical monsoon climate finally leaves Pattaya, giving way to a long high tourist season, lasting until spring. At the beginning of the month, gusty winds from the Gulf of Thailand are still possible, bringing short-term thunderstorms. But from mid-November, dry, clear, partly cloudy weather sets in, and there are never strong winds. A real holiday begins for travelers - lovers of beach holidays, sea attractions and entertainment. The flow of tourists to the kingdom is growing every day, as are prices for tourism services and rental housing.

You can come to Pattaya at any time of the year. Travelers love this Thai resort for the year-round opportunity to sunbathe and swim in the warm sea. Thailand is always interesting, no matter what tourist season you visit. Whatever the weather, there is an opportunity to see new places and get acquainted with original Thai traditions.

Water parks in Pattaya

The network of water parks in Pattaya is constantly developing. The construction of new attractions has not yet been fully completed. But with its end, we can hope that all the needs of tourists and local residents for entertainment of this level will be satisfied.

The oldest water amusement park of the resort is located on the territory of the Pattaya Park Beach Resort hotel at the address: 345 Jomtien Beach, Pattaya City, Chonburi 20150 Thailand - South Pattaya (first coastline). This is the only hotel in a Thai resort that has its own water park. Since the sea within the city limits is not very clean, such a complex of water activities is very convenient for families with children. Water attractions include 6 long and spinning slides, large Jacuzzis and a long circular pool.

On the territory of the water park there is a so-called private beach, equipped with comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas. Here you can use the services of specialists in Thai therapeutic and wellness massage. The park area is fenced. Entrance fee - 100 baht. From here to the sea there are several tens of meters and from all places in the park, especially from the upper points of the water slides, you can clearly see the water surface of the Gulf of Thailand, the beach coastline, the island of Koh Lan, located 8 km from the mainland, and several other, smaller islands.

The Cartoon Network Amazone water park opened at the end of July 2014, welcomes guests all year round and is open from 10.00 to 18.00. It is located in the suburb of Pattaya - Bang Sar, near Sukhumvit Street. From the city you can get here by car, taxi and shuttle buses in about 20 minutes. You can also take advantage of the songthaews running along Sukhumvit. white, or minibuses and buses going towards Rayong.

Waterpark Cartoon Network Amazone

The water park's attractions are dedicated to the characters of everyone's favorite cartoons. Included in the name "Cartoon Network" is an American cartoon channel, broadcast from which are carried out in different countries world, including in Russia since 2005. The park has several long water slides, the highest of which allows thrill-seekers to descend from a height of 23.4 m. Those who like to ride at very high speed will enjoy the “goop loop”. Here you can gain acceleration up to 24.5 m/s². In addition, vacationers can try long tube rafting, spin slides and parallel slides to compete with friends.

Construction of the Ramayana Water Park began in October 2011. This water park will officially open to visitors at the end of March 2016. The water pleasure center is located 15 km south of Pattaya, near the lake and Silver Lake vineyards. Guests of this water park will be able to visit 14 zones of various entertainment, thematically related to the ancient epic “Ramayana”.

The water attractions include a “wave pool”. In one part of it you can sway on the sea surface with light ripples, as if in a breeze. The other part imitates real ocean waves. In addition, the park has a “lazy river” - a long pool with a current. A “flourwriter” has been built for surfing on the waves. Other original structures of the Ramayana: “vortex” and “family raft ride” are designed for skating for 3-4 people at the same time; “duel master blaster” – wet slides of different shapes and sizes; “Boomerango” is a half pipe with a large slope.

Beaches and nearby islands

The beaches of Pattaya do not enjoy the best reputation, although some vacationers are quite happy with them. Large equipped beach areas are located in the city center (along Beach Street) and in the Jomtien area - in the south of Pattaya. The rest of the resort's beaches are much smaller. The main disadvantage of Pattaya beaches is water pollution. If the sand and beach area are still somehow cleaned, there is plenty of garbage in the sea.

Most tourists who come to Pattaya go for a swim on Koh Larn, an island 8 km away from the coast. Ferries and speedboats operate daily from Bali Hai Pier, which is located near Walking Street at the foot of Pratumnak Hill. The ferry ride lasts about 40 minutes and costs 30 THB. The boat reaches Koh Larn in 15-20 minutes and costs 150 THB per person.

There are several equipped beaches on the island. The sea here is much cleaner than in the city of Pattaya, and the holiday is pleasant. On each of the beaches you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as dine at local restaurants. They move around the island as if on public transport, and on rented motorbikes. If you wish, it is easy to rent hotel rooms on Koh Lan and spend a few days.

In addition, from Pattaya you can take a boat to other, smaller islands. Such trips are preferred by those who love a deserted holiday, far from civilization.

What to see on your own in Pattaya

Pattaya is a popular global resort offering its guests a wide variety of entertainment and attractions. In Pattaya, it is interesting to visit the Temple of Truth, the elephant village and look at the golden rock image of Buddha. In addition to sea travel, Pattaya offers a variety of excursions along the coast - along historical monuments Buddhism, the tropical garden-park of Nong Nooch, the island of Samet, a crocodile farm, zoos, and places of national crafts and crafts. Day excursions to Bangkok and other Thai cities are also organized from Pattaya.

It’s interesting to take a walk along Volkin Street, which runs along the seashore. It starts under Pratumnak Hill and extends to the beginning of Beach Road. During daylight hours this street looks quite dull and sleepy; it is a roadway. Towards the evening (after 18.00) this part of Pattaya is closed to public transport, and it is transformed.

Volkin Street appears as a bright, red-light street full of lights and entertainment. And although prostitution is officially prohibited in Thailand, many go-go bars, strip clubs and other similar establishments open on Volkin Street and adjacent intersections. Thrill-seekers and sex shows from all over the world especially come here. However, they are not the only ones. Every evening, many simple onlookers walk along Volkin Street - travelers who are far from the topic of sex tourism and even parents with children.

At its top, where an asphalt road and 120 steps lead, there is a platform where a statue of the Big Buddha and smaller sculptures of Buddha are installed - a whole complex of religious monuments. There are several Buddhist relics here and you can receive blessings from the monks. The site offers wonderful views of the urban areas of Pattaya and the shore of the Gulf of Thailand. A little lower on the hill there is a beautiful Chinese temple with a monument to Confucius.

The neighboring Pratumnak Hill, located closer to the sea, also has attractions. An asphalt road leads to it from Big Buddha Hill. Pratamnak is higher and the climb up this hill is steeper. At the top of the hill, travelers will find an excellent observation deck from where they can clearly see the central part of the city and the island of Koh Larn.

On your own In Pattaya you can visit a transvestite show. They are shown in the city in three places at once - in the Tiffany, Colosseum and Alcazar entertainment centers.

There are also several museums to explore within the city. The unusual Ripley Museum is located on the top floor of the Royal Garden Plaza shopping center. This is a whole museum complex, which consists of an endless mirror labyrinth, a museum wax figures, a Believe It or Not museum, several fear rooms and a 4D cinema.

Ripley Museum

An interesting collection of miniature architectural attractions is exhibited in the open air - Mini Siam Park. There are the most famous Buddhist pagodas and monasteries of Thailand and Southeast Asia, as well as replicas of the most famous buildings in Europe. The park looks very beautiful in the evening, when the mini-monuments are illuminated with original lighting. Mini Siam is located on Sukhumvit Street, in the northern part of the city. You can get there by taxi or public transport around Sukhumvit.

Mini Siam Park

Opposite Mini Siam, in a building that resembles a large head, is the Bottle Art Museum Pattaya. This is an interesting collection of glass bottles with miniatures placed inside.

On Second Street, in the central part of Pattaya, opposite the Tiffany entertainment center, there is an original 3D museum (Art in paradise). It is interesting to visit for selfie lovers and beautiful photos against the background of works of 3D art.

Where to eat

Tourist packages to Pattaya, as a rule, include only hotel breakfast, so food issues are decided by travelers on their own. But it's not a problem. It is impossible to go hungry at a Thai resort. Cafes, bars and restaurants are open here at every turn. Prices, as well as the level of service, of course, can differ significantly, so there is no need to rush. There is always a choice in Pattaya. And here you can always find a place that will satisfy absolutely everything - the range, the quality of food, the service, and the price.

Pattaya was created for tourists, so there are many restaurants serving national cuisines - Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Mediterranean and others. Most cafes and restaurants serve European and Thai cuisine. Thai cuisine is very original and is considered one of the best in the world. Getting to know her means pleasant discoveries and... surprises. Thai food tends to be spicy. And if you want to try this or that local dish, it is better to ask the waiter not to make it spicy - “but spicy.”

Variety of Pattaya cuisine

Throughout Thailand, and Pattaya is no exception, there are many food vendors on the streets - makashnits. They sell fruit or skewers, pancakes, soups, freshly prepared salads, various sweets and ice cream. It is absolutely safe to eat from makashnitsa, since these people have been trading in the same places for years, sometimes from generation to generation. They serve both tourists and Thais themselves, and therefore are interested in having a good reputation and selling quality food to customers.

Many tourists who come to Pattaya prefer to eat in food courts. These are inexpensive public catering centers that are open in large shopping centers: Tukkom, Big C, Tesco, Mike Shopping Mall, Central Festival. Here, in one place, several small restaurants are concentrated, offering 10-15 dishes each. When you enter the food court, you can choose the dishes and drinks you like, just like in a dining room. Payment is made through the cash register using a plastic card or food court coupons.

Cheap food is available at the city's food markets. Small restaurants and cafes are always open there. In addition, a lot of Seven-Eleven (7-11) and Family-Mart chain stores have been created in Pattaya. They work around the clock and sell ready-made chilled food (pizzas, main courses with rice), pancakes, sandwiches, burgers, as well as sausages, sausages and pies, which sellers, at the request of customers, heat up in microwaves for free. In addition, in these stores you can buy milk, yoghurts, juices, coffee, carbonated and drinking water, beer and alcoholic drinks.

Waterpark at Pattaya Park Beach Resort

Most tourists opt for beautiful Thai folk crafts - painted fans and umbrellas made of Sa paper, wooden carved sculptures and boxes, souvenirs made of palm leaves, jewelry made of natural stone, shells and pearls, famous Thai silk and ceramics. In addition, you can buy high-quality leather belts, wallets and bags in Pattaya.

It is very convenient to buy souvenirs in the large Lukdot store, which is located at 209/10 Youmei Central Pattaya (North Street lane, near Sukhumvit). This store has almost all types of souvenirs and their prices are not inflated. It is also convenient that there is a free transfer to Lukdot from Pattaya hotels.

They also try to import locally produced cosmetics and balms, syrups, fruit vitamin supplements, coconut oil and noni juice from Thailand. Prices for such products can vary significantly. These types of goods are cheapest in Thai markets, as well as in the Beauty chain of specialized stores, of which there are several in Pattaya. One of them is located next to the famous Tukkom electronics center on South Street.

Transport

It is convenient to move around the city and its suburbs using rented cars or motorbikes - there are many car rental outlets in Pattaya. In addition, it is convenient to travel around Pattaya by taxi, although this is the most expensive way to get around the resort. Taxi cars stand out from other cars with their specific bright colors and checkered signs.

Motorbikes on the streets of Pattaya

Almost all cars have meters, however, drivers refuse to use them. In Pattaya this is the norm, and the price of the trip has to be negotiated. Unfortunately, taxi fares in Pattaya are several times higher than in Bangkok. The price of the trip starts from 100 THB (for very short distances). The usual price for traveling around the city is 200-300 THB.

Very cheap and popular modes of transport that are used by all tourists and residents of the city are songthaews, tuk-tuks and motorcycle taxis. Songthaew means "two benches" in Thai. This is the name given to pickup trucks with a covered body that are equipped to carry passengers. There is seating for 10-12 people, and a few more passengers can stand. A standard trip costs 10 THB, and for long distances it costs up to 30 THB.

Songthaew routes are located along most of the streets of Pattaya. Cars with white bodies drive around Sukhumvit, and blue songthaews carry passengers along the streets located to the west of Sukhumvit (the seaside part of the resort). There are also blue, green and red cars, but they serve mainly not tourist areas Pattaya.

Songthaew can also be used as a taxi. To do this, you need to stop the car and agree with the driver on the route. In this case, the price of the trip will be comparable to the cost of a regular taxi, but if you bargain, it can be reduced slightly.

Tuk-tuks are covered three-wheeled scooters designed for 1-2 passengers. The price of the trip must be negotiated with the tuk-tuk driver. Compared to Bangkok, where there are many tuk-tuks on all streets, in Pattaya such transport is quite rare.

It is also convenient to travel around Pattaya by motorcycle taxi, especially if you are traveling alone or together, without bulky cargo. You can get to the right place faster with scooters, as this type of transport easily gets around traffic jams. Places where there are motorcycle taxi drivers (motosai) are located near all shopping centers and almost every intersection. Drivers wear colored vests (orange, yellow, green and blue colors). The cost of a short distance trip (2 km) starts from 30 THB.

To get from Pattaya to Bangkok or to attractions located in the vicinity of the city, use regular buses and minivans.

How to get to Pattaya from Bangkok

To get from Russia to Pattaya, you first need to fly by plane to the capital of Thailand - Bangkok. Travel time without transfers will be 9-11 hours. Flights from Russia are accepted by Thailand's main airport, Suvarnabhumi, the largest air gateway to Southeast Asia. This airport is located on the eastern outskirts of Bangkok, and the road from it to the resort takes about two hours (165 km).

The first option to get to Pattaya is by taxi. Depending on the size of the car, the trip will cost 1200-4000 THB. To avoid scammers, it is better to order a car at the “Public Taxi” counter, which is located on the ground floor of the airport. From the arrivals area you can go down there by escalators.

The second, no less convenient, but much cheaper way is to come to Pattaya by bus. The ticket offices that sell tickets for these buses are located on the 1st level of the airport, near exit No. 8. The fare is 134 THB. And the travel time, like by taxi, is about two hours. Buses depart from 7.00 to 21.00 at hourly intervals. You can brighten up the waiting time in the nearby food court - have a snack, eat ice cream or drink coffee.

Every year tourists in Thailand have the same problems! They get into the same troubles in the same places, and then shout the guard on the forums. Long-livers answer: “What were you waiting for? It's always like that there"

For some reason, our tourists have the impression that Thailand is a very safe country. My first housemate generally insisted that here you can leave a running bike on the street, but don’t close the door to the house. I partially agree with him, because Thailand is much safer than Russia. Seriously, at 4 am in Pattaya on a dark street I feel calmer than during the day in St. Petersburg Kupchino.

But nevertheless, once every 2 weeks in the most popular VKontakte group about Pattaya a post appears “Attention! I was robbed” and describe the same scheme, in the same place. And this post immediately has a bunch of identical comments: “Yes, this has already been discussed a hundred times,” “Oh, well, you need to know such things,” “I had a case there too...”, etc.

Therefore, I will share with you those scams that are practiced in Thailand and Pattaya, as well as those places that are better to avoid.

The most dangerous place in Pattaya is the Ambassador Pattaya Hotel

Ambassador is one of the largest and most popular hotels among Russians in Pattaya. The hotel has its own huge territory, at the exit there is a large number of inexpensive cafes and souvenir shops, and opposite is the large entertainment district of Mimosa. Everything would be fine, but it is all located on a busy highway. The worst thing there is the pedestrian crossing across the highway! Every week a person is killed at this crossing. I am not kidding! This transition is a branch of the devil. Imagine that in Moscow a zebra crossing would be allowed across the Moscow Ring Road, but without traffic lights or any identification marks at all. I hated this transition every time we drove along this highway. You’re driving calmly for 100 km in a dense stream, and then the whole stream suddenly begins to slow down, as if in an accident: and pedestrians walked ahead without warning.

I ask you: Walk 200 meters - there is an overpass! The pedestrian crossing near Ambmassador is the most dangerous place in Pattaya.

Photo of the crossing from Google maps, an overpass can be seen in the distance. The traffic light never works!

Batman's house

There is one creepy thing in Pattaya, but very interesting place. Calls Batman's house. This used to be the trashiest club in Pattaya. It was opened by a Taiwanese with gold teeth using money stolen from the mafia. And according to rumors, a complete ata-tai was going on there! Child abuse and drug sales are the very tip of the iceberg. In the end, it turned out to be too much even for Pattaya and after 10 months the club was closed and the owner disappeared.

Now the club is inhabited by illegal migrants, drug addicts and prostitutes. Although the house has quite interesting view— it is not recommended to enter it; it is best to simply ride past on a bike.

Robbery - Thieves on motorbikes

All Asians ride motorbikes very well, and they start riding openly on the streets at the age of 14, and the words “rules”, “logic”, “safety” are not about them at all. A lot of these youngsters make their living as theft. Those. During your walk, a motorbike with two youngsters is attached to you and at a certain moment they drive up very close - one snatches the bag, and the second revives on the gas. This situation in a tuk-tuk is very dangerous when it stops at a traffic light, and thieves drive up from behind and break the chain. If the chain is strong, it can seriously damage your neck.

Most often this situation happens with tourists, because... they carry with them large sums money. Losing money in this case is just a frustration, but Many people carry passports in their purses, which is a big mistake.

Attacks - Bastards on motorbikes

As I already wrote in the post about ““, now in Pattaya there has grown up a generation of children who were born from whores. Sorry, but there is no other way to say it. Because these are gangs of young bastards without morals and fear, but with the desire to take other people's money.

These are not cowardly thieves who snatch a bag and leave, these are real bandits. They also track their prey, but if they fail to snatch the bag, they do not run away, but stop and attack. Sometimes with a knife, sometimes they throw stones at your head. But more often they throw the victim off the motorbike (when the victim is driving), i.e. they simply catch up and kick the bike down, and while the victim comes to his senses, they search his pockets.

Teenagers aged 14-18 also do this; they are still afraid of attacking men or couples. But attacks on single women driving a bike occur once a month.

Theft

There is a lot of theft in Thailand! They steal bikes in hotels, things on the beach, they steal from apartments and houses! Every year similar topics appear on the forums! In Pattaya, helmets are most often stolen from shopping centers when the owners simply leave them on the seat and do not fasten them, and bikes are also stolen there (It takes no more than 40 seconds to steal any bike). The same goes for houses in Thai villages - they are surrounded regularly, even with cameras and security, because... The cameras most often do not work, and there is an unguarded loophole into the village.

Choose condos with access cards and houses in well-guarded villages. Otherwise, keep your money in a safe and your jewelry in safe deposit boxes at the bank. By the way, V, this will help with the theft of a motorbike and the theft of a handbag, just throw it inside and install an application that can track the loss. The Thais don’t yet know what it is, so the chance of returning things is 99%.

Cheating - Jet Skiing

One of the most popular beach scams in Pattaya. So popular that jet ski owners became known as the mafia. How it all happens: You rent a jet ski, and then either when you return it, you find a large scratch on the bottom, or during the ride the wiring comes off and the motorcycle stalls. The seller starts demanding money - from 1000 to 5000 baht, and if you don’t immediately reach into your wallet, then more and more locals appear from somewhere. About 10 locals instantly gather around you, yelling, shaking their fists, threatening the police, and you are standing on vacation, your wife and child are vacationing nearby and you don’t want all these problems at all. Therefore, tourists almost always pay a “ransom”. If you go to the island of Koh Larn, then there is a 90% chance that you will be scammed like that, because... There are no police on the beaches and no one will really help you.

There are cases when people still drag bike owners to the police, but the outcome is not clear and very much depends on the policeman. They may force you to pay, or they may send the owner of the motorbike. Remember that no matter how menacingly the scooter owners wave their fists, they will not attack you (the main thing is not to be rude to them), because the police know everything about their scams and if they touch a tourist, their shop will immediately close. Therefore, option 3: go to the police and hope for luck, or pay these extortionists, or politely send everyone away and go home (they will not leave you until the ship to Pattaya).

And the best thing in Pattaya is not to take a jet ski at all!

Fraud with bank cards (interesting case)

Scrimming, or theft of bank card data, is almost a national pastime in Thailand, because... Street cameras have not yet been developed here, and the IT police work very poorly, so scammers from all over the world come here. Cases of theft are completely different, the most unusual I have seen are the following: A thief gets on a night bus who is watching foreigners, their targets are tourists who have just arrived and are traveling full of money. When the tourist falls asleep, the thief takes cards and cash out of his bag, asks him to stop the bus and transfers into the prepared car (She either follows him from Bangkok itself, or waits at the appointed place), then the car vomits to the nearest electronics store and empties it overnight cards, the tourist discovers the loss only in the morning, or on the highway at night, where he can do nothing.

Deception - Rent a motorbike on a whip.

I heard about such a scam most often on the beach (beach street in Pattaya), where many drunk tourists take bikes for a ride. There are several places there where they rent very cool sports bikes or Harleys. The deposit is only a passport. The scam is the same as with a jet ski, you are either shown a large scratch somewhere under the bottom, or this scratch is slightly painted over and the paint will immediately fall off when riding. In general, do not take a bike to Bichka! Better google who Auntie Tiom is (not to be confused with “Russian Thai Tom”). Auntie Tiem is a very kind and good Thai woman who will never cheat and rents motorbikes in Pattaya.

Kathoi attacks

Katoyami in Thailand are called transvestites. Those. boys who became girls. For many, katoi is still exotic, and unpleasant at that. The next time you decide to tease a tranny, remember that this is, first of all, a man who is on hormonal pills, who is insulted during the day, and at night they do things that no healthy person can stand. Therefore, katoeys very often attack tourists. These include robberies and banal fights.

In general, all long-lived people advise staying away from the cathoi. It never ends well.

Deception - Changing money in a taxi

The point is that when dropping you off, the taxi driver stops very poorly, most often at some busy intersection, or right in front of a traffic light, in general, so that they start honking at him, and you are in a hurry. You give the taxi driver the money, turn to the exit, but they don’t let you get out - the taxi driver shows the money in his hand, and there is 100 or 200 baht missing. And recently a smiling taxi driver with the same smile and bewilderment asks you to pay the bill, dissatisfied beeps come from behind and you are completely confused. Most often, people think that they really mixed up the new money, but in fact the taxi driver replaced them.
Shake your finger at the taxi driver, say “Ay-ay-ay” and get out. The taxi driver knows that he cheated and no one will chase you

Deception - Attraction is closed

This is found everywhere in Asia! If you take a taxi to some attraction, the taxi driver will tell you that it is closed, but for a small fee he will take you around amazing places that are usually not shown to tourists.

I get caught all the time. We smile and tell the taxi driver that you will go and have a look anyway =)

Deception - Selling drugs

There is a death penalty for selling drugs in Thailand! But for many years now there has been a boy walking on the beach street in Pattaya who, with an unequivocal gesture, offers to buy “dope” from him. Periodically, some unafraid idiot buys from him, then the guy steps into the shadows, takes out his phone and calls the police, to whom he turns over this idiot for a reward. If you decide to buy drugs anywhere in Thailand, there is a 99% chance that you will be handed over to the police.

Welcome to the land of smiles

Despite all this, Thailand remains as friendly and smiling! what is described above can be found in any other country in the world, but I wrote this so that you would be more careful! After Russian tensions, ours are too relaxed in Thailand and become victims of scammers! Be kind to people, but know where they want to deceive you!

Have a nice holiday 😉

For many years, Pattaya has held the lead in popularity among tourists from many countries. It has everything you need for a good rest - nightlife, a rich excursion program and several beaches of fairly good quality.

Now the city is losing points in comparison with Phuket, Krabi province and Koh Samui. But, nevertheless, it makes sense to look at the city in a new way, because there is a lot of interesting things here. Behind last years Two modern water parks were built, magnificent tigers await visitors at the Si Racha Zoo, and popular national shows constantly update the program.

Although the city beaches of Pattaya may not seem picturesque enough for the sophisticated tourist, this is still the gentle coastline of the Gulf of Thailand. It is warm here all year round, there is an abundance of delicious exotic fruits, and hospitable Thais are always happy to have guests.
